I don't even know any other retailers that sell it other than FCPU in the US that is.

When I got the email I was actually getting fitted for a suit and was like "should I just wait till I'm done? They can't sell out that quickly right?" That was followed up 10 seconds later with "Screw it let me just get it now before I regret not pouncing on it."

Boy did I make the right decision.

Well http://www.aquatuning.us/water-cooling/gpu-water-blocks/gpu-full-cover/16363/aquacomputer-backplate-fuer-kryographics-hawaii-r9-290x/290-aktiv-xcs?c=6475 but they are out of stock themselves.

that was the first google I checked.

funny thing about it was that I got mine almost by accident. Someone on here even mentioned that there was one on FrozenCpu about 4 months ago just sitting there for about a week and I just happened to get it.

I ordered one of the passive back plates only a couple of weeks ago. Looks like I will be waiting a long time for it. I wonder if it will arrive before my next rebuild? wink.gif

Is there a reasonable alternative to this piece? Can we use the stock backplate without compromising too much intended cooling function? Would be really nice if there was a full passive AC backplate for the 295x2. If there is I haven't found it yet. I would have ordered one of these 4 days ago but I was busy. Not going to do anything at all until I know for sure how best to complement the 295x2 Aquacomputer block I already have. If the stock backplate could be used I would do that.

Edit: Oh, duh. I need one of these for my 290x... they don't make an Aquacomputer backplate for the 295x2... weird.

Updated version of the review..

It seems like passive vs active makes not much of a difference in regards to vrm temps?
Looking at the last set of test results, at high flow rates, passive and active backplate has the same vrm temps.
This may be because the cards were not overclocked high enough (Overclocked R9-290 with PT1T no throttle bios running furmark at 1150MHz core, 1350MHz mem, +100mV core, +100mV Aux. All temperature deltas are relative to coolant temperatures.), so the block (with high flow rate) itself is enough to cool the vrms and active BP does nothing.

I thought this too. The difference between Active and Passive is so small (1 or 2 degrees) that it makes almost no difference, and in one case the active was worse than the passive. I've ordered the passive anyway, as it was cheaper. biggrin.gif

Cool so the active BP can be skipped. What should I do for a 295x2 backplate though? Perhaps I'll ask in the 295x2 thread...
As far as I know, there is no back plate for the 295x2. Although I could be wrong, if someone wishes to correct me? Also, I did find someone on eBay that was making custom back plates for a variety of GPUs. Not sure if a 295x2 was one of them though. And I doubt they will be as good as the standard AC back plate.
