4200+ DualCore Overclocking Help

Hey guys,
im fairly new to overclocking but i cant seem to get this CPU to overclock at all without just crashing.

As soon as i take it past 2.4gig (FSB@220) It gets to the XP loading screen and bang just reboots. I have tried upping the voltage but that was no fix either. Ive noticed also when it was at 2.4gig its fine the whole time while im using the pc but as soon as i leave it for a decent amount of time it just rebooted... Also i think this may have something to do with the HT LINK SPEED. I try setting it to 4x in my bios but when i boot its back at 5x and that is making the HT FREQ pretty high so i think thats what may be causing the crashes.

This is my pc

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-M55SLI-S4 (Latest Bios)
Kingston 2x512meg DDR2 533 Sticks (Tried underclocking to 400 to test but still crash)
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
Pioneer DVD-RW
W.D. 250gig sata HDD
2x80GIG SEGATE HDD
500w Coolmaster PSU

Also temps are fine
I ran Orthos for 2 hours and max temp was 63°
Idle temp is around 30°

Thanks in advance

Scott

I had the same prob. for awhile before I got my new PSU. It was holding me back big time. But I also followed the suggestions from others and am at 2.8 .
Make sure cool and quiet is dissabled, any spread spectrums dissabled, and as someone told me earlier usb leagacy support dissabled. I also dissabled bios cachable. Try HTT x4 with a bump up in voltage, lossen your ram timmings abit with a bump in voltage, I havent had to raise my mem reference voltage yet but you may. try it at stock and if no go use 400 divider. Just have to keep tweaking, you will get it. GOOD LUCK

hmmm...Well...it surely has to do with your cpu power! If I underpower my cpu I get the same result! Another thing it may be is that your psu can't budge with overclocking! That's why they recomment high end psu's for overclocking

Yeah in the bios
Yea, if you are changing it in the bios and hitting f10 to save it should stay. That is weird....... Have you tried a reset? And with CnQ, thermal throttling off?
