The Antlion Modmic

I have been using a 1.0 for almost 2 years now. The improvement over the Zalman mic is INSANE. Those that have BF'd w/ me can verify the sexiness of my voice. My only complaint is that it is an omnidirectional mic and does pick up background noise, tho nowhere near as bad as the Zalman. The 4.0 is noise cancelling, so this shouldn't be a problem anymore. Unfortunately, it's not available yet. More info below.

[$100 BUDGET] Sony V6 w/ Beyerdynamic DT250-80 replacement velour ear pads

These will set you back about $85 for the headphones and $20 for the pads. These are closed headphones. They will not have the soundstage of an open headphone, but will be much better suited for a LAN party. Of course, if you have a loud PC or there are children/wife around, this will help w/ that too. The nice thing about these is that they are very accurate positionally and they can be powered from anything. You will not need an amp and any onboard sound will do.

[$200 NIRVANA] Audio Technica A900X w/ Hifiman replacement velour ear pads.

Headphones have gone for $160 before, but typically go for $230. Pads can be had at headphone.com for $16 shipped. These are closed headphones. Compared to the V6's, you get A LOT more bass and soundstage. These are also great for music. Also, you will not need an amp w/ these. I use these for LAN parties.

[$300 BALLS OUT] AKG Q701

These are the best. Open w/ a MASSIVE soundstage and the best positional audio I've ever heard. Honestly, I cannot say enough how much I love these things. They are equally as awesome for music, so 2 birds here. Also, you're going to want to do the bass port mod as seen below. Wo/ this mod, bass is very light on these things. After the mod, they are every bit as good as Beyerdynamic's DT880's. These WILL need an amp and although I'm happy w/ my Littledot Mach III tube amp, I'm sure there are better options out there. These used to go for nearly $300, but can be had for about $200 now. I see the Schiit Magni being recommended a lot and that goes for about $100. The headband sucks and will need some modding. I simply tore mine off and duct taped some hand towels to it, but a seat belt strap cushion from Autozone would probably be the better option.

Found ya and friend request sent! Sorry about shatting all over your hard work on the hyperthreading post. I know you went through a lot and do appreciate it!

I'm content w/ where I'm @ now mostly due to adding this:

1. Make a notepad file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4
2. Add the line, GameTime.MaxVariableFps 119.94
3. Save it as user.cfg

That has boosted me from 80 FPS drops to 110 FPS on Shanghai when the building falls down and you're driving over the bridge in a tank.

That said, I am eagerly looking forward to the new Intel chips out @ the end of the year. An 8 core would definitely be a good choice if I want to ensure that I'm not CPU limited, lol, right?!

yeah, but not really worth it for a half-broken game thumb.gif
Spend money only when the game is worth it.

As for the HT thread - no worries, drove me to get those results. Glad I did in the end, pretty much the first you saw on the internet smile.gif

Is this thread going to have a list of member names in the OP or what? If you do decide to compile a list (google doc might be useful) I suggest at least categorizing it by Region, since it is almost impossible to play across the pond for most people. Plus my friend list is already almost full, can't really be adding people that I can't even play with.

I'm not sure how to do that, but I put us down in the OP by region and cleaned up the OP.
