best 1 or 2 terabyte drive under $90?

Thread Starter
Hi I'm running out of hdd room and currently a bit rusty. Been looking at wd blacks, seagates, Toshiba and not sure what to buy. It will be mainly used for games and other stuff. Any help will be greatly appreciated since I will be ordering it soon.

I believe the mobo is only 3.0 for sata. Thanks thumb.gif

I think these are great. I bought 5 of them:

Toshiba 3TB

I guess they're all little more than you want to spend, but I think these are perfect for storage use. Great reviews as well.

SATA I (1.5GbHz) barely bottlenecks even the fastest HDDs. Laptop HDDs can run with no bottleneck whatsoever even on ATA-133. For that money, I'd definitely spend $10-20 more and get 3TB; drive prices only get better as they get bigger. THIS looks to be a pretty good Seagate drive. WD doesn't have any good options for those capacities: Greens are slow, Reds for RAID, and Blacks are overpriced.

Word of advice, stay away from 2TB drives. You don't know if you'll get a 3x667GB platter or 2x1TB platter drive. The latter are more desirable but there really is no way to tell a difference without cracking the drive open or taking two seemingly-identical drives and weighing them.
