Can I use my old W7 key which I upgraded to W8, if the W8 is still is use?

I think the topic clears it pretty much, but I upgraded my Windows 7 license key to W8. Can I still use my Windows 7 license key on another computer while the W8 computer is active?

W7 License key = Retail
W8 Upgrade license key = Upgrade

Solved: If you have upgraded your Windows 7 license to W8 (Windows 8 Upgrade), both the W7 and W8 Upgrade license key are valid, that is, you can have W7 installed on computer A and W8 Upgrade on computer B. I installed W8 upgrade on my desktop without having W7 installed (clean install) and then I installed W7 on my laptop.

TL;DR - Windows 7 license does not get void after being upgraded to W8 Upgrade license and is still fully functional and valid.

Is the Windows 7 Key an OEM key or retail? If its OEM or an upgrade key then no you used its one time use already. If retail it can be used as many times as you wish.

It's retail, but even though the key has been upgraded? It doesn't get marked like "Upgraded key, W8 already in use, invalid for use." or something like that?

I am curious about this as well. Someone bought me what they thought was a full, clean-install version of windows 8 (because it doesnt say upgrade anywhere on the box) and I have been trying to get it to work with a clean install for a while to no avail. I was able to do it on my main PC, but when I moved it to my media PC it didnt work. Microsoft must have patched all of the workarounds.

I have a full, retail version of windows 7 Pro, but am not willing to give it up for windows 8.

If its a retail key, you should be able to do as many installs as you wish on it as long as only 1 is active at a time. I would think (i might be wrong) but using your windows 8 upgrade key doesn't void your retail windows 7 key.

If it did, that would mean the cost for the retail windows 7 key, and a windows 8 upgrade would cost you more then buying a retail windows 8 key which would be dumb.

So far it appears that the retails does not get void after being upgraded. Got both W7 and W8 Upgrade computers running and validated.

So could I install windows 7,not activate it, and install 8 with the upgrade disk on top of it?

As a matter a fact you don't even need W7 installed before you run the upgrade process. What I'm saying is, if you upgraded your retail W7 key, you can still use it after you've installed the upgrade on another computer.

All I know is I have a machine with each installed, and my windows 8 will not activate.

No you need to activate the copy of windows 7 first i believe or else upgrade after will not work, once its upgraded (again i may be wrong) it will not be an activated windows 7 machine again and allow you to re-use that key. But i do know for sure, the copy of windows your upgrading has to be activated.
