You'll also likely find more GPUs supporting it as its an open standard, unlike HDMI, which must be paid royalties every time a manufacturer wants to use it for devices. They likely charge more for 2.0 which may be an indicated by the lack of its use in devices. HDMI will probably get to 4k @120hz in another 4 years biggrin.gif

As for the screen splitting, unless I'm mistaken, that's done on the driver side of things, and is unrelated to the connectors.

dp 1.3 is 8k@30hz, 8k is 4 times the resolution of 4k, hence it can pull4k@120hz

Haswell-E platform will generally cost you 2x as much as a 4770k/MB/Ram . As for maxwell that is going to be the same story.

I guess what I'm saying is you are comparing mainstream to enthusiast platforms. If you have a crummy system now... Grab the 4770k and a GTX 780/780Ti . If you have a decent one and want to spend ALOT of money, then buy HW-E and Maxwell when it comes. Also, since HW-E is supposed to come in June, and it looks like Maxwell not until August, you'll have to have a GPU lay over as well.

Ok thanks for the help guys, while I know this is now verging on off topic rolleyes.gif this really helped me a ton. I have a macbook pro right now (please do not hurt me I am trying). My only question is, why wait for haswell-e if maxwell will be a different socket which will then require a new mobo. Wouldn't it be better to buy my cpu now on lga 1150, being able to use the same mobo for longer, upgrading to haswell-e if I want, then buying a new mobo/ram/cpu for maxwell?

Maxwell is the next gen GPU, not CPU. It won't need a new mobo/ram/cpu whatever.

On the second point, if you buy LGA1150, that won't allow you to /upgrade to Haswell-E as that needs LGA2011-3.

Wow I need to not post when I am this tired lol. Thank you for the explanation. Good to know that haswell-e will require a new socket..... I will wait until then. Am I correct in thinking that it will be released early July? Also, will the CPU generation after Haswell-e (Broadwell I think) use a different socket? Also what dates are the 800 series rumored to be released?

Haswell-E and Broadwell are not on the same platform. Haswell-E is the next line of extreme edition processors which run on high end consumer socket LGA-2011, and Broadwell runs on the mainstream socket LGA-1150 (not compatible with 8 series chipset though). If there is a Broadwell-E released sometime in 2015 as one would expect, it may run on the LGA-2011 socket (though if I recall that socket might be ending after Haswell-E). Otherwise they are not on the same socket.

The only thing we know about Maxwell is a rumored release date of second half 2014.

I'm going to assume until proven otherwise that Broadwell-E will be LGA2001.3 as well, since it is the Haswell TOCK.

hey guy is it true that Nvidia Delays "unified virtual memory" feature from Maxwell into pascal? I am soo gonna be mad about this, since Pascal is like ...only release at year 2016

That is what they have lead us to believe @ the keynote. Pascal = Volta, and we won't see Maxwell until end of 14/early 15.

we should know more @ computex.
