[wccftech] GeForce 800 Series Arrives in Second Half of 2014 - Page 57

Anyone wanna guess pricing?

Since the 780Ti is $700, will a faster 880 be $700 too?

I can see Nvidia giving us a mid-ranged GM104, selling it for $500 and saying "See guys! Prices gone down!", even though they haven't. And once GM110 hits they sell that for $700+ like the 780Ti.

Or they'll release a proper GM100 and charge the hell out of us $800+.

There's no way they'll sell GM100 for $500 like they did with the 480 and 580 will they? Those days are long dead, right?

I'll just take opportunity to apologize to all of you in advance. If the performance per watt of maxwell is even pretty close to those 750TIs on 250w parts the performance boost will be big enough that nv can charge whatever they want and I'll pay it. If 880 is anywhere in the neighborhood of 30%+ better performance than 780ti I'll take 3 at least, regardless of price.

Sorry!

Nvidia will place the GM100 and GM104 relative to what AMD has to offer at the time. Would be pretty dumb of Nvidia to bring a 20nm GM100 for 500$ which is like 50% faster than the 780 Ti, while AMD has nothing. They know damn well people are going to pay 700$ for something like that.

good will you sell me one of your titans for 500 bucks? It would nearly double my performance and I could sell my 7950 to a miner who obviously NEEDS to make cryptocurrencies with my card.

Sigh. Does every GPU thread have to go down this same inane rat hole? rolleyes.gif Here we are in March 2014 rehashing the winners and losers of 2012's "7970 vs 680" debate in a thread entitled: "wccftech-geforce-800-series-arrives-in-second-half-of-2014". I mean let it go guys. The 7970 and 680 were both very successful cards for their respective companies (Nvidia clearly won the ultimate prize of vastly outselling their competition but AMD came through in the end with a 7970 that eventually well outperformed the 680 for the most part). We are now in 2014 and contemplating 20nm cards so this is all irrelevant anyway. You can cry taht AMD was responsible for the high prices or Nvida but whatever, the prices are what they are and you can either buy the new cards or not. I'm inclined to stick things out with my Titans through Maxwell and wait on Volta myself. We've long since arrived at the point where video card performance is outstripping the development of graphics so I'm betting these two Titans will continue to provide adequate performance in all games through 2015...

Is there much motivation for NVIDIA to launch a considerably more powerful GPU this year? It seems like this less-demanding console generation and a generally slow release of 4K content/displays won't create much need for more GPU power in the short term. I wonder if the initial launch of the 800 series will simply be more efficient variants of what we have now, with perhaps a modest increase in performance on the very top-end card and maybe a 790 to satisfy those with 4K monitors and such.

GM104 most likely, with 15-20% improvement over 780Ti. I even go as far as think it might be 28nm as well.
