To be fair though that is the same with any market. Being an enthusiast of anything is going to set you back in the $$$ department...

Being an enthusiast is costly in every market, but it's beginning to look worse and worse.

Some might say that charging $500 for a flagship that will last an entire year is too much, these guys are charging $650-$1000 for stuff that`s getting outdated in 3-6 months.

I love new tech but , but it`s getting less and less worthwhile to buy at launch these days.

Really, you are screwing your self buy early adopting the technology, as prices always drop.

I purchased 2 titans @ 999$, then purchased the third @ 750$... I don't feel screwed... hell... they have done nothing but get faster thanks to the community. They use to top out ~1000mhz, now I can run them @ 1334mhz w/ 7.5ghz memory all day. They will easily last me until volta releases, also a 3gb card wasn't an option due to the resolutions I run, as i knew games would start sucking up more and more vram. Most new titles easily consume over 3gb in new titles @ max settings so i threw money @ them willingly. Anyone who purchased titans for single screen gaming screwed them selves. It's as simple as that.

Amen. People act like 500$ and 700$ and 1000$ are on different rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. Millions of people gaming on budget builds would love to be able to afford any high end card on launch day. Both of these companies charge exactly as much as their projections say the market will bear, whatever the best ratio of price vs volume etc.. People are required by law to return maximum value to their shareholders.

Hell half the time there aren't even decent PC games worthy of a flagship card, just mediocre console ports that intrinsically don't require the highest end hardware to run well.

Walking wallets is all we are to just about any publically traded company you could name.

Where do you see a $1000 card getting outdated in 3-6 months? I bought my Titans in February of 2013 and they will remain at the very top of the performance charts until the GTX 880 arrives, probably in October of 2014. That would make 20 months of being a flagship which is very good as far as I can tell. Last generation, the 7970 launched in December 2011 and remained on top until Titan launched 14 months later...

top tier technology lasts allot longer than a year. Specially GK110 Variants. Multiple of them will kick any games ass on a single monitor for years to come.

My 3x titans will continue to rock anything i throw at them, even in surround for years to come, and as Eric said... Titan will remain a flagship GPU for almost two years. The biggest thing holding back our cards is not the hardware, it's the software. NV and Microsoft have announced an initiative to overhaul directX, so that it too has low level hardware access, just like Mantle. That will be one of the single biggest advancements in the history of gaming, that combined with Volta... We are on the verge of a truly new era in PC gaming, and for that reason I will be skipping Maxwell, unless some one makes me an offer i can't refuse on my titans. Which may happen since the prices are going up due to EOL and their extreme overclocking headroom thanks to the software voltage hacks.

I can't even imagine the fud that is flying now that AMD owners know that A.) Nvidia & MS are working together to overhaul Direct X to give it low level access just like mantle (something that we have been predicting since we found out about mantle)

And B.) That Volta is going to be the biggest revolution in GPU technology since the Voodoo series.... Nvidia is boasting ~1,000,000+ draw call capabilities via Project Denver. I'm also going to predict a big announcement from nvidia, since they are the main company helping Valve with SteamOS... Maybe a way to allow direct X use in linux, as that's going to be a huge hurdle for steamOS. SteamOS can only be a success if it can properly run every game on it's current library.

in other news... i may be selling my titans and going with 290x until volta, as titan prices are surging due to them going EOL.
wait what? project Denver that I have been waiting is pushed back to Volta? I tot this is suppose to be in Maxwell.

more waiting again?, I am gonna flip the table. mad.gif

The going theory right now is that we won't see it until 16nm finfet, which should roll out late 2015... Most early speculation pointed towards it being slated for maxwell, but I don't think we will see it for maxwell unless AMD starts posing a serious threat to Nvidia's marketshare... So basically... Right now it sounds like Nvidia is going to do an entire line of 28nm maxwell products, with a 20nm refresh... If we see it in maxwell, it won't be until the 20nm refresh, assuming that is true. Most speculation is now pointing out 16nm Volta now, though.

For most people who game, Titan pretty much got replaced by the much cheaper and almost identical performing 780 3 months later.

95% as fast and two thirds as cheap. That was a big blow to Titan users.

Guess what happened to 780 users a relatively short while later? $150 price drop and another release that was 20% faster for only $50 more than what they originally bought the 780 for.

They shafted us big time.
