[wccftech] GeForce 800 Series Arrives in Second Half of 2014 - Page 77

This whole CPU/GPU generation is going slowly to be honest. Systems from 2011/2012 looking good. I suspect it's a combination of a slowed economy and being in the end of the silicon era.

I don't consider that a reason due to experience: For the whole of the 90s I was like "wow, do we really get double the speed in just a year?" and the software makers were STILL finding ways to squeeze it.

i.e. trust me, if you have 8X the speed of GPUs and 8x the speed of CPU they would STILL find ways to squeeze them. It's after all VERY easy to make a polygon with more vertices and more animation frames.

Wild speculation is fine, but if they were releasing the 800 series in March, why would they announce that they're releasing it in the second half of 2014?

Seriously, are people just not going to the link in the OP?

To be fair, Asus did say Q2 for their monitor, and Q2 starts next month.

I still am a bit skeptical of Intel actually doing this, as there aren't any market reasons to do it. They simply dominate AMD still, and don't "have" to do it to maintain their market, it has simply been a long standing request by the enthusiast segment.

That being said, I personally expect them to do it now anyway, regardless of market dominance, just to keep the masses happy in a sense. Intel knows they have to do something to get people to make the jump to a new socket, 2011-3. Simply saying "Hey! Here is Haswell-E, you need a new platform, and....look! Clocks!!!", isn't going to work and people will do what I have been doing; sticking to a platform for an extended period.

Seriously, how many people are on Sandy-E still, because Ivy-E wasn't worth the time to click the "Order" button? Intel hasn't given Sandy owners any legitimate reason to make a jump, especially up at the high end segment, so at this point we expect them to give us reason.

If they do.....Lord help my wife, my wallet........

I didn't expect a full system rebuild this year, but Haswell-E, 880s or 780s, ROG Swift? This is one of those years that the industry just throws the entire kitchen at you, and you want to buy it all!

Considering I had already planned for a full system rebuild (last one was over 4 years ago), I'm pretty damn excited. I was hoping that high-end Maxwell would show up in March like they said a while ago they were shooting for, but at this point I'm willing to wait until it does.
