This is an AMAZING year to be in a position to need a full system rebuild, a terrible year for those of us that have plenty powerful enough systems, but want more power we aren't going to actually use.

I guess I will put off that new Drysuit, since I typically dive tropic anyways, and uh.....use that money for parts. That is how I will convince the wife; also maybe buy her a diamond....she did just get a new car. I can work this....I have angles!

Yeah, I feel bad for you folk who went with shiny new Haswells and 780s...

I mean, sure, there's always something newer and shinier around the corner, but there are always big jumps that come along, and this time seems to be a bunch of simultaneous jumps in a bunch of different components.

It was hard to watch you all play with sandy-e and ivy-e. I had a huge upgrade itch and then titan showed up so at least I got to do something. But I will not just sit and watch you all play with a shiny new 8 cores, I want in.

As for 8xx if it's small die first which seems to make the most sense, I will likely wait until big die, unless big die seems ~9 months away then I probably will just jump.

That being said, I personally expect them to do it now anyway, regardless of market dominance, just to keep the masses happy in a sense. Intel knows they have to do something to get people to make the jump to a new socket, 2011-3. Simply saying "Hey! Here is Haswell-E, you need a new platform, and....look! Clocks!!!", isn't going to work and people will do what I have been doing; sticking to a platform for an extended period.

Seriously, how many people are on Sandy-E still, because Ivy-E wasn't worth the time to click the "Order" button? Intel hasn't given Sandy owners any legitimate reason to make a jump, especially up at the high end segment, so at this point we expect them to give us reason.

If they do.....Lord help my wife, my wallet........

I didn't expect a full system rebuild this year, but Haswell-E, 880s or 780s, ROG Swift? This is one of those years that the industry just throws the entire kitchen at you, and you want to buy it all!
its about time they did something new, or shareholders will not be happy about it. also 6 core for 350-400bucks, 8 core for 550bucks, there is no competition from amd in this pricerange. they could put 12 cores at 350-400 bucks, amd simply has nothing to offer in this range aside maximum oced 9xxx series

anyway its not that far away, just till july august and we will see

best

Some of us have been on gk110 for over a year at this point and yet our titans still scream thanks to voltage control. this will be the first time I skip an Architecture in a long time because I simply don't need the performance gains 3x 1300 MHz titans will continue to destroy 1080p surround for another year.
Volta or bust!!

Seriously, are people just not going to the link in the OP?

Because other articles say it may be March. What makes the OP article better than two others saying within the next few weeks?

It's newer?

Is this really a question? The March thing was a good long while ago, this was much more recent. More recent news is generally more accurate than older news, especially when it's the actual company itself telling you about things. They seriously would not have said "second half 2014" in February if the cards were actually coming a month later.

It's not newer. You clearly haven't been keeping up on the news.... you're a good poster but not right in this case smile.gif.

OP article: Feb 14th

Forbes article: Feb 20th: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/02/20/nvidia-is-about-to-steal-the-cryptocurrency-mining-crown-from-amd/
Quote:
This all leads to a conclusion that’s far from crazy: When Nvidia’s high-end Maxwell cards drop later this year (possibly by late March), they’re going to meet or surpass the hashrates currently possible from AMD, consume less power, and do so while staying cooler and quieter.

VR-zone: March 7th: http://vr-zone.com/articles/maxwell-will-bring-nvidia-back-cryptomining-game/73556.html
Quote:
Keep in mind that Nvidia’s high-end Maxwell cards, which will likely occupy the 800-series, are coming in a few weeks and will likely be Nvidia’s answer to the R9 290X as far as mining goes.

And sure they would have said it a month ago, or did you believe the titanfall twitter saying there'd be no season pass too? (Then they posted one two days later for preorder)?

of course titanfall will have a season pass, the base game is teeny tiny. It will be DLC hell.
