I just don't understand how people can pretend that Nvidia saying "800 series arrives second half 2014" means anything other than "800 series arrives second half 2014." Yes, I know that they had a roadmap from a long time ago that said March, but if it were March, they would have said March during their presentation three weeks ago, and not 2H 2014.

No, they wouldn't have. It's all marketing and playing the competitive aspects. Also the Forbes article was an original quote per the statement, not based on months old info. The author states he himself asked after testing the 750 ti mining.

Well post it here if you do happen to find it. It would support something extremetech said in one of their 750Ti articles:
Quote:
AMD’s prices are stuck in the stratosphere thanks to cryptocurrency speculation and it hasn’t taped out any 20nm designs yet. Given that it typically takes 12 months to take a chip from tapeout to volume production, it’ll be very surprising if AMD can counter with a new architecture before this time next year.

I'm not saying that there are going to be earlier releases but you have to admit that some vietnamese forum user reporting what he heard in a closed doors press conference doesn't really equal NV 100% saying something.

@xoleras: One final quick note, don't want to clog up the thread with titanfall stuff. Unfortunately there was only two game modes left out of the beta, capture the flag, and a mode where you only receive points for killing pilots. Any other game modes will have to come via dlc and/or patches.

Re: 8xx. I actually agree with whoever said that there were probably "competitive reasons" for making whatever statements in regards to release dates, I'm sure there's a lot of cat and mouse that goes on, on the other hand I'm quite sure both companies know almost exactly what the other is doing and when they're doing it. If AMD is really a year away from releasing anything on the 20nm node it seems like nvidia can afford to ease off the gas a bit.

You're seriously claiming that saying that something is coming in second half 2014 just so you can surprise people with "Oh wait, it's here NOW! Yay!" is their marketing tactic of choice?

The Forbes article was not an original quote per the statement. It said, in parentheses, (possibly March). That means it's NOT related to something that's actually in the article about GTX 750/Ti being good for mining, and is not coming from the horse's mouth. The March information is, actually, months old. Anyone who quotes it is quoting something that is months old. The second half 2014 is three weeks old.

I don't understand how you can be so dismissive of the date of the sources of information. Newer information supercedes older information. You don't disbelieve the newer information and believe 100% in older information just because you think it might be a marketing gimmick. Sorry, but no.

How doesn't it? It was Nvidia who said it, at an Nvidia event. Sure, it was closed doors, but if they didn't expect people to report on what they said behind closed doors, they wouldn't have had the meeting. The source is Nvidia, they did say it. How can you possibly argue that it's appropriate to pretend it didn't happen, and instead believe even more vague and unsubstantiated rumors about a potential March release based on an always-optimistic roadmap in a presentation that's ancient by tech standards?

I don't understand how you can argue that some random Vietnamese forum user is 100% reliable when it comes to things like this.

We have no idea if the source was Nvidia or not. All we can do is choose to trust the forum user or not.

Then why haven't you moved this to Rumors and Unconfirmed Articles yet?

I mean, given that the guy has pictures from the meeting, what reason do we have to disbelieve him?

Could it be the 790 that is coming in a few weeks? Weren't the rumoured specs for that one listed alongside the Titan Black (which turned out to be true)? I remember they didn't quite match up with any current Kepler GPU, so maybe it is two mid-range Maxwell 28nm GPUs on a single board.
