Audio/Sounds/etc:

Music: http://freemusicarchive.org/

Googling "open source resource" will help you out. [replace 'resource' with the desired resource]

I used to have an open source resource list back when I programmed some games. If I can find it, I'll send it through. It was to do with animation and images etc.

Themeforest etc (the brand they run under) give away a free file each month under loads of different categories, so I'd recommend grabbing stuff from them when the month is new, got a great collection of bit's and pieces for free! (Although licensing only covers on one project keep that in mind.) Also I find that if you follow some of the web development sites they give away good freebies, icon packs etc. High res imagery.

For music, there is always https://machinimasound.com/ The rest I'm clueless about, but generally it doesen't get much better than making your own smile.gif

I just collect it all and stick it on an FTP with there licenses and sorted it all out, google is the best though..

And if in doubt, having some money hidden away in the royalty photo sites is never a bad idea. They usually have anything you are looking for and sometimes getting something for .. £5 is better than wasting hours finding it for free.

I am slowly converting to that idea too... Anyway, I'll try to make my own stuff for now, I've been using Paint.NET for more than 5 years to make icons with effects, cursors, etc, and I've got the hang of it, but now that I'm trying to make some progress in game development, I find that Paint.NET is not enough. I made some rather acceptable for my project water animations, but now it's getting harder.

I need a planet.
Just the horizon, with some dynamic atmospheric effects, animated oceans, shadows, etc. NOT realtime 3D, mind you. I was thinking of making different transparent PNGs for the layers, and then do stuff with them dynamically in code. It will take a long time to make, and I doubt that even paid sites have exactly what I need, cause I've never seen it done elsewhere.

Oh well smile.gif I'll just have to get it done bit by bit smile.gif Thanks a lot for directing me to machinimasound! It seems exactly like one of the things I need thumb.gif

I use... Gimp / Inkscape / Paint.net - I also know some coding so.. I can usually edit around plugins to suit my need (media wise).

But yea
inkscape - UI icons etc
Gimp / paint.net - Main image editing programs.
I sometimes use online SVG makers if I want to make SVG icons .. (which is something to look into if you are making web icons).

Lastly, if you are using LOTS of imagery that is ... like grass? or something texture wise. Just grab the camera and go for an adventure.

No problem about Machinima - Good good resource (remember to link them somewhere in said application) part of the rules I believe smile.gif

These days most of the stuff I code is command line applications for servers so don't really need much in the way of resources. However I've found Font Squirrel is invaluable for finding decent type faces when I've been building web sites.
