For Media***

Thread Starter
I was wondering what the best computer be for a multimedia desktop? I have a new 46" Bravia Sony LCD HDTV, and wish to have a sole computer on it for media purposes. I know I don't need the best computer to watch movies and etc, but wish to at least have the best quality possible without going overboard with very good sound card with it. What kind of processor would i need? how much memory? kind of hard drive would matter? video card? sound card?

and for side purposes, kind of keyboard or mouse for the computer?

The gyration mouse seems pretty cool, but not the best, so just wait on input devices then? thanks~!~

Well if you intend on using it for a HTPC (Home Theater PC) you will want a lot of hard drive space, and relatively cool components all around.

The HTPC Store should give you an idea of what you need for a good system:

http://www.pcalchemy.com/

Also, take a look at our PVRs.net, which is a sister forum of overclock.net and is devoted to HTPCs.

o.O512 is not enough, get a Pentium D 805, or Celly 356 or 360, 250-750GB(depend on you), 7300LE or GT, AND 1GB RAM.(best for Vista and modern PC.

he doesn,t need 1 gb for vista as he,s just going to use it as a media center for movies and music , 512mb is enough , and the 7300le has the newest technology and is the cheapest in the 7xxx series and again more than enough for what he needs - he can upgrade to 8200,8300le for directx10 when they come out .
and BLADEY : although vista seems not needed right now but this setup I,m sure he planse to use it for a long time so eventually he will use vista on it - even if he uses xp for now - and when he do the 512mb of ram will be good enough for it so he wouldn,t need to upgrade . ( for using xp 256mb is enough for a media center ) .
