Grandia GD06 watercooled HTPC stuffed with bitumen. Build log with pictures - Page 2

Very clean job, I like the custom case work. I'm working on a similar build right now in a Fractal Node 605 case (if the rest of my G**-D**N parts would ever show up).

Here's few pics of the system in action.

I have tried some older gamere and they work flawlessly.
In the photos I wanted to try out something a little more challenging.

It's running the Tomb Rider in 3D at 720p with ultra quality settings.
Please note that the tressfx is enabled too.
With these settings the frame rate gets around 25fps at lowest, average seems to be around 30.
If I disable tressfx the fps jumps up to around 40-45fps so it does make quite an impact on this system.
Yet I'm still impressed how well these old cards work even when they are not crossfired. thumb.gif for AMD

I also tried Deus Ex human revolution in 3D and it runs fine 1080p with all settings maxed, though it is seems limited by the tv to 24hz in 3D. Maybe i'll try 720p next time as it gives 50hz

I still have to see if there is some option I need to tweak, because the picture does not fill the whole tv screen when games are in 3d mode.. desktop doesnt have those black borders. I have set the catalyst control panel to 0% underscan and that scaled the desktop to full screen. Somehow it doesn't affect 3D modes.. frown.gif

Still it's pretty cool to game 3D with the big screen. The tomb rider looks awesome and the xbox controller seems to work pretty nicely on that too. (I'm more of a mouse an a keyboard kind of guy so it was nice to see its ok with pad)

The water temp seems to get around 41'C, but the gpu core and voltage regulators stay around 50-55 max (4hours of gaming)
I could change the fan profile to be even more agressive but I'm not sure i need to. Its nice and quiet like this and its still way better than the original cooler.

OK, tried the DE HR in 720p @59Hz in 3D (though my tv reports it being 60Hz..??). with allmost everything maxed I get mostly constant 60fps and in bigger scenes it can go lower to 40fps and sometimes when its loading scenery it drops to 35fps for a second (maybe its the 5400rpm mobile hdd that is not keeping up?..) but that is happening so rarely it does not bother gameplay at all.

Also, I´m quite getting used to the xbox pad. they implemented it nicely on DX HR too. at least on the directors cut version.

I have to add that after setting the 3d strenght up a notch and 3d plane back two clicks the game looks awesome. I do game with FOV of 90 even with the big screen, but after setting the 3d plane back a bit it looks good and fairly natural to me at least. I tried all kinds of different 3d settings, but sitting at the sofa and looking at the tv it was most natural that the 3d plane was just a bit inside the tv and not pushing outside too much. The HUDs though, hower outside the tv, so they look pretty cool. They seem to come out a bit regardless of the 3d plane setting. I like how they made that.

I think I´ll play this through this time.

Found a solution for this. If there is someone else with this propblem you have to set the underscan/overscan from catalyst control center for all different resolutions and refresh rates all by one. I set only the ones I really need so its not too big of a job. So you just set the desktop resolution and refresh rate to the mode you need in game or during 3d video etc and then you go to CCC and set the overscan. It seems that the needed overscan is not the same for all resolutions and refresh rates so thats why i think it needs to be set one by one when using HDMI. Though I do think its weird that it needs to be done at all.. It feels weird that under/overscan is needed for digital signal. I understand why it would be implemented on old analog tv signals..
