The 8800 GTX Ultra was $829.00 (not accounting for inflation).

Please enlighten us, does the 290X outperform that too? I'm dying to know...

Aaaand the 290x does beat the 780ti in some games, and they are pretty damn close in general.

In the states the 780 Ti is cheaper

man, bencher is going in dry tongue.gif

It would be nice to see more mantle reviews now that DICE sorted out the one major issue it had.

Don't forget 290X was late to the game, AMD had plenty of time to develop a fast card, and even then it has is issues. The 290 was amazing in terms of performance to price ratio, but that only lasted for a brief moment. Remember that at the time of Titan release, it destroyed everything by a wide margin. That still didn't justify the 1k price tag, but it wasn't a waste either. Here we are a year later and it is still being referred to as the card to beat.

My thoughts on mantle are:

If I want to build a mid range pc, and I'm limited to buying a 200 gpu, I will most def recommend a 260x, assuming I want to play battlefield. Because, it seems like mantle still needs a lot of time to adjust and be adopted in other games, I would suggest the fastest card on the market under 200 bucks, such as a 750ti. By the time more and more games use mantle and most of the issues have been worked out, new generations of gpus will probably be out on the market. Would I go out of my way to get mantle now, absolutely not. I don't even like BF4.

For the folks who already have an AMD card, that's great, but it all boils down to what games people play the most. Seeing AMD make a push to further optimize games for the PC is a great thing, not bashing that in any way, but for people to make ridiculous claims and skew things to make the competition look bad, is what is upsetting. At least for me, I want accurate and honest reviews. What good is it for reviews to lie and just report bogus results? That will inspire someone to spend their hard earned cash on something that won't deliver the same results as the report.
