[pcgameshardware] BF4 : Graphics cards benchmarks - Mantle vs Direct3D, R9 290X vsGTX 780 Ti Catalyst 14.1 BETA 1.7 - Page 32

Update with 2nd assult patch notes say they fixed stuttering with mantle (which is has for me)

7970 CF

Before that patch 2nd gpu will drop to 0% load for 1/2 a sec once every 4-5 mins which would result in frame rate dropping down to 60-70fps.
After patch that problem is fixed.

Brightness problem has been fixed, It does default to 100% any more when setting mantle.
Contrast still looks a little bit out tho.

There still ment to be even more optimisations for the 7XXX series cards but I dont see how when im already getting 30-40FPS more on average over directX.

Probably the optimization is in vram department.

So reading through this thread it seems that many of you think that Mantle benchmarks are a bogus lie?

But Nvida will have cards with ARM cores to speed up direcx. I can't imagine Microsoft would not improve direcx to make this possible.

Remember 750 ti Maxwell architecture  improvements 1.35(speed) X 1.2(density) , so in 2-3 years top card should be 1.5x faster that 780 Ti. CPU speed's don't increase that much any more:drool: .

It is difficault to have this discusion when we don't know what amd next arcecture and what Nvidia's ARM cores will give.

GPU's are only as good as the API's it runs on

Apparently you didn't read it close enough. No one is decrying the Mantle benchmarks as a lie. Those are definitely legitimate. What people are decrying is the fact that they specifically manipulated their data-set/test to show everything except Mantle in a far starker contrast (in a bad way) than what actual performance really is. And other website's testing show this to hold true.

apparently their posts are more reliable then a website that specializes in benchmarking.

Like I have said 4 million times (obvious exaggeration) none of us ever get the same results as the review sites, usually if not always we get better and most of the time way better. So I still do not get why so many throw such a fit when the results are not indicative of their own personal results. Seeing how it is in "not English" or even French that I can read a bit, I cant make assertions as to the validity. Best I can guess is that they ran a quick and dirty and those were the results. Its not the first review we've seen that lacks the better part of proper scientific method of approach. I am not sure the 780Ti results were necessary and likely if they were not posted this thread would not have garnered so much attention.

They sure aren't. Mantle is largely useful if you're not OC'ing to crazy limits, I didn't really see much difference going from Mantle to DX on my 3.6GHz Xeon L5639 (Yes it's a six-core stop calling it a quad!)

Probably like this review from anand.

they took a factory overclocked 780 ti oc that runs out of the box at 1085mhz and downclocked it to 947mhz, cause thats supposedly stock 780ti and went to compare it with a 1000mhz 290x, which is the top clock on a 290x, while stock clock is 725mhz.

so yes the entire benchmark is bogus because it does not represent reality. if they wanted that much to downclock both cards, they should have downclocked 290x to 725mhz, but i guess we know how the numbers would work with both cards downclocked to stock

i had ati cards for 15 years, and i guess i will get myself 2 390s next year when star citizen releases under mantle, but come on. this is one big blatant bogus benchmark

best
