What?

A friend is running a 2700k @ 4.9 with 780ti's in SLI. That CPU is 3 generations old, going on 4 in may. A 4770K at 4.5 won't bottleneck any card for a while, especially if DX gets better optimizations.

By the time mantle is used on at least 5 major game engines, new gear will be in the shelves.

For now, I'm gonna just wait on the Asus Swift monitor, and since I have a pair of nvidia gpus I'll get to use GSync on every game I run, and not just BF4.

try those i7 without K @ 1080p run games titles like crysis 4/5 4yrs later. tongue.gif

Would still do better than a 8150 at stock speeds. Mantle doesn't work on crysis 3, so that won't even help. Besides as we get more into higher res gaming, more load gets put into the gpu.

I see you are still trying... Let me correct for the millionth time...

This says otherwise. Here is a $1000 cpu at 4.2ghz bottlenecking a single 290x.

I have an endless supply of corrections for you.

You get an average of 100 fps and you got the nerve to say a 4.2 4960x bottlenecks a 290x.

Btw 4930K perform exactly the same in games. Keep in mind that graph only shows 1080p, roll out the 1440p and 4k graphs. And if you're gonna use a 4960x for reference at least give it a decent clock speed. All 4960x can do 4.5 easy. So please, show me your corrections.

doesnt mean the next gen crysis wont adopt that API, after all it is under EA publish. btw, CPU performance are pretty much stagnant GPU performance are still going up every generation. 750Ti just do double the performance/watt over Kepler. At some point of the time in future CPU is going to be the one bottlenecking the GPU, that is the area where Mantle be useful

Seriously I dont get why people suddenly think DirectX is the best API. Nvidia need to get themselves their own version of metal API if they didnt want mantle. Anything but DirectX.

AMD Mantle + Nvidia Metal API that support win/Mac/linux is much better than having DirectX/OpenGL

I agree with you on that. But while the 2700k kicked the FX series in the back and has been great for 3 years, doesn't mean they are rendered useless just because Crysis 4 uses mantle.

You did ask how many gens would those i7 CPUs run without bottlenecking cards.

Bencher just posted a graph on his definition of bottleneck. 100fps vs 109 on a very conservative CPU clock. Let's face it, not every game will get mantle this year, i5 and i7 do a great job keeping up with gpus and more importantly do so with a million more titles. It all boils down to what games you play the most.

Yea I got the nerve to say lol.

It is a cpu bottleneck, the card was not used to it's full potential. And would the bottleneck would be even worse with a 780ti.

At any resolution a cpu bottleneck will be present.... especially in BF4. Also running multiple cards to get playable fps on 4k will present even more bottleneck LOL

You seem to don't know the meaning of "bottleneck".

Anything else?

The bag of corrections is still full.

Mantle is not about making games designed for DX11 to run better. BF4 is the worst example for Mantle. Its just a Mantle port. Mantle is about pushing the draw call so you can make much bigger and better games.

Mantle: GPU 1: 60~70% and GPU 2: 55% (perfect 55%, no kidding).

I hope for it to get better in the future (especially inb4 Theif), so I really can be convinced by Mantle. Running the StarSwarm demo didn't quite convince me of it's effectiveness in real games.

You don't have an r9 gpu..they barely got the r9s under control. You are on the old gen and god knows what issues you'll have at this point. Unless you are on r7 or r9, i wouldn't even bother testing the beta drivers out
