Wait I don't understand, I thought kinks in tubing created problems? Like restrictive flow? could it not build up pressure? If it was me I'd just rework it ASAP because it's not worth the risk to me for a few mins of work.

Do you guys think there be any real advantage or increased overclocking headroom with this (NB/VRM blocks) over my current setup?

I'm currently at 4750mhz on an 8320 @ 1.475v. I can run about 4850 @ 1.525v but the temps reach 62 very fast and probably would reach 70 or so. I do have a pair of 60mm fans over the OEM VRM heatsink and a 120mm fan on the back of the motherboard.

I'm always down to throw an extra couple hundred bucks at my system here and there but I'm wondering as DX12 makes processing power less important in gaming, if my money would be better spent on another graphics card.

Do you have a big air cooler that gets in the way or can you jury-rig a 140mm fan to blow onto and past/through the VRM sink?

I have managed to improve my VRM temp significantly without ear-splitting noise by removing the back 140mm fan in my case and pivoting it so that it blows over and through the VRM sink on my UD3P board. I was using a small fan but it was just too loud. I am using a 70mm fan on the northbridge (also blowing partially past it).

I have a pic of the rig on my profile, I basically have a pair of 60mm fans directly on the sink. Everything is on water but I do have a 120x60 radiator at the back exhaust location blowing out. Still, air is air and water is water.



I also have all 3 radiators setup to blow out, in order to keep temps in the case cooler (and keep dust out), at the expense of temps at the cpu/gpu. The side panel feeds fresh air into the case.

I noticed better temps in my rig and on my CPU when I fitted my VRM and NB blocks, getting 5ghz stable also seemed easier too but tbh half my VRM didn't have contact with the VRM heatsink when on air (thanks ASUS!)



Plus doing this made my PC look better so glad I did it in the end in all honesty. I like having my PC at 5ghz, gaming is a breeze and if the almighty DX12 makes CPU power less of an issue then I'll get more out of my overclocked 970 too.

Cool, I will consider. Just don't know if it's gonna be worth it for an extra 100 or 200 mhz, but if it makes a huge difference in temps then that would be worth it to me. Also the platform is a little old so the mobo specific blocks might go to waste with an upgrade.

Plus I think we have already seen how little CPU overclocking and architecture matters in well optimized games like we've seen over the last few years (bf4, inquisition, witcher 3, tomb raider, etc) and if you want an idea of dx12 will do, just look at mantle benches.

I'm hoping that dx12 will push developers to use new, modern engines. But i'm sure we'll always be stuck with the occasional game that uses some old engine, is a ****ty port etc where a fast cpu makes quite a difference. I mean for ****s sake fallout 4 is calling for an fx 9370 as recommended.

Often times big RTS games are heavy on the CPU, no doubt, I saw some of the benches and I admit it looks sad for the FX. Still I have good hopes thanks to the fable legends dx12 benches (this one shows i3/i5/i7) and you can see there is pretty much no difference in cpu at 1080p. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9659/fable-legends-directx-12-benchmark-analysis/3 As well as other DX11 titles that have shown similar results.
