What to expect from EVGA support

My 580 is dying sad-smiley-002.gif

Here is what I see on the screen when I'm using the card:

I removed "The Mod" and put the stock cooler back on with new thermal padding and paste. This unfortunately did not help. I also tried the other output ports without any luck. So a few minutes ago I submitted a ticket request to EVGA support to see if the card is still under warranty. Anyone have any experience with EVGA in particular?

What can I expect, from any company, trying to RMA a GPU? The only other part I've sent back before was my PSU a couple of months ago. It died, and Corsair sent me a brand new one without any trouble at all.

If they deny RMA, should I bake it? I've always wanted to bake a GPU ever since I saw a thread about it on this site. Is there a possibility of that working with this card?

if they deny the RMA then you really have nothing to lose by attempting a bake

No reason why that shouldn't still be under warranty, most 580's had a lifetime warranty. If you run into any issues feel free to send me a PM though.

Thanks for posting in here Jacob; I actually forgot OCN had an EVGA rep. If they take my card, would I be getting a 580 back or a newer card?
Hard to say... depends on what is available at the time. I would say there is a good chance it would be something newer.

Well let me know how it goes man. I just RMA'd my gtx 590 and they're sending me a 680 FTW+. I'm not sure if I'm happy with the outcome though seeing as I spent $750 on the card when it came out, and I'm getting a card that only beats the 590 in certain benchmarks. Leaves me wondering how they distinguish what you get in return. In any case, good luck man.

EVGA support doesn't want to replace my card. I don't qualify for the lifetime warranty, because when I bought the card three years ago I was a noob and had no idea immediately (within 30 days of purchase) registering your new GPU is kind of a big deal. So it was covered by the limited three year warranty, which has recently expired. I've PM'd @EVGA-JacobF regarding this in case I've misinterpreted the email, but he hasn't responded yet (I assume because it's a weekend, not a big deal).

Anyway, there's a status report. I'm now looking around for a new card in case I have to throw the 580 into the garbage can*. The Zotac GTX 750 Ti is looking pretty nice at $150. I don't really have the budget for a new flagship GPU.

* I would never throw my beloved GTX 580 into a garbage can.

Update! The RMA was approved, and last week I mailed the card out.

Today I got an email saying they're shipping me a new card, and it is registered to my account already. So it looks like I'm getting a new GTX 580 biggrin.gif A big thank you to @EVGA-JacobF for helping with this.

I'll post some pics when I get the card, because why not. It's due to arrive by UPS Friday, probably around the time I'll get home from work.
