Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X BIOS FLASH GUIDE ( to overcome vrm heat and throttle)

Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X BIOS FLASH GUIDE

As far as I know you all have some problems ( vrm , heat , performance drop , throttling) with this card . I had those same issues before flashing my card's bios with a modded bios . This bios and this guide is goingto to help you overcome all these problems. This card runs perfect but 0.41 bios is BAD ..SO here we gonna flash the card with a GOOD one which is v44 ( actually based on the 0.39 version which is the non-problematic bios version) . So all you need to do is to read below :

1- PREPERATION STEP :

In this step you need to learn your card's bios number and card's vram vendor. You can learn bios number with gpu-z such as :

wjrbvn.jpg

and learn bios vram vendor with a software :

http://s3.dosya.tc/server18/ZxxnFC/MemoryInfo1005.zip.html

in the software :

there is "elpdia" or "hynix"

so mine is elpdia. learn what yours is.

2- FLASH PREPERATION STEP

In this step you need to download ATIWINFLASH tool :

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2311/ati-winflash-2-6-7/

after you get it , you have to extract all files to a folder. After this step you need to get the moded bios for your card ( with the info you get ,bios vram info especially )

here is all the modded bios for Sapphire R9-280X :

http://www.upload.gen.tr/d.php/www/eTyTg/Sapphire_E21004_V44_K2_NT_AGR.rom.html (elpdia) ( which I find best for elpdia and I use currently )

and others :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/uge8yz8n88ms4cr/2104XTLAFR-V45_AGR.zip (Hynix)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5kvgyof6plquq8h/2104XTLAFR-V46_AGR.zip (Hynix)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fwxlc0fldzsr9zx/Sapphire_E21004_LU_Elpida_AGR.zip

you need to download the one which suits your card and its vram.

3- FLASHING THE BIOS

This is the final step ahead. Now you go to the folder which you extracted atiwinflash , open it and put the bios (after opening the bios from zip of course) that you downloaded to the same folder. Now this step is important : YOU NEED TO RUN THE ATIWINFLASH.exe as ADMINISTRATION :

After the software opens you will see like this :

fukl.png

you need to click LOAD IMAGE box first and find the bios you put in the ATIWINFLASH folder you extracted. Then you need to click the PROGRAM box to flash the bios ... TADAAAAAAAA finally it flashes it and askes you to restart it ( DO IT !!) after you restarted your brand new GOOD bios and super sexy and performance card is ready to use smile.gif

I hope you get the help you need wink.gif

Hi kersoz2003,

Thanks for the awesome guide!
I updated the original OEM Bios on my Vapor-X card in a similar manner to v41 and was wondering what issue/s you were having with that specific bios revision?

The only problems I encountered on the original bios was the obvious excessive fan speed/temp profile which made a lot of noise for no reason (Safety first I guess lol). v41 is running very well for me and has no issues, at least that I can see smile.gif Since I don't have any kind of change log or way to check the differences of the bios versions, I'm a bit lost lol

I've currently got both my cards on bios v41 and sitting at the settings below with out any problems:

GPU Clock: 1120
Memory Clock: 1500
VDDC: 1206
Custom fan profile with 5 points:
Point 1: 0 Degrees/10% fan
Point 2: 65 Degrees/35% fan
Point 3: 80 Degrees/45% fan
Point 4: 85 Degrees/50% fan
Point 5: 90 Degrees/60% fan (Hopefully it never reaches this tongue.gif)

All in all, I can game for 60mins+ without the card/s going over 75 Degrees. Normally at 75 Degrees, the cards are running the fan at approx. 41-42% which I barely notice over my case fans.

Hi,

Is it possible to flash other sapphire r9 280x model bios (eg. tri x, toxic, vapor x) to my sapphire r9 280x dual x? im just curios. Is it the same board with better cooling components or they was just a totally different hardware? thanks!

Can anyone please upload the v44 Vapor-X BIOS listed in the original thread? All of the hosting links I've found are broken. I have Elpida RAM.

I tried a dual-x bios on my Vapor-X and my computer would not even boot, so I would stick to BIOS files meant for your graphics card.
