*possible bad ram

I've never debugged using a crash dump before but I think I left myself enough page file for one; 800mb. So, I'd like to try and use it to diagnose my issues.

I'm suspecting a potential ram issue but haven't had the time to run through all 32GB of it. I have had memtest show errors but I've also tested with Memtest86+ and I can't get a consistent error. So I'm thinking I'll try one stick at a time soon encase it's possibly heat related (errors only when stressed).

That being said I've had at least two crashes in the last couple months where I'll be watching a video or some sound is playing and the computer locks up completely, repeating whatever sound played last. No cursor movement. This last crash went silent when I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL but visually was still frozen and I had to reset.

I tried following the debugging instructions here but when trying to install the windows SDK containing the debugging tool I get an "installation failed" message.

I'm running windows 7 Pro 64bit.

Would it be worth trying to get a crash dump, could that narrow it down to a driver vs. a ram issue? Can multiple crash dumps be read or do they overwrite as they occur? I thought I could compare and see what the cause of my lockups is.

I'd also love to know if I should use Memtest86+ or just Memtest.

I've always used Memtest86+

If you can get a crash dump, use BlueScreenView to read it.
