[RETIRED] Battlefield 4 Frame Time Analyzer ~ Version 4.2 Released (Major Release)! - Page 3

Thanks for your work +rep thumb.gif

I ran it using my current config file, in which I use 117 as MaxFPS.

So I guess I am using the wrong figure as a limit, will run again with no limiter and see what I get.

Well two ways this could happen, game bug, bad overclock, memory issues, or failing drive. I will go with a game bug since it has plenty.

I tell you what though, I will adjust the code so it can still use the other data.

And they never explained how exactly those frame times are related to effective image refresh rate on your screen. My guess, is that CPU fps is rate at which GPU is fed with frames, GPU in its turn process those frames with GPU frame time delay and outputs to the screen at CPU FPS rate.

Empirically, you want to setup your frame limiter in the way, that CPU graph (yellow one) is always straight line and GPU line (green one) is matching it or mostly below it. This will give you most responsive and smooth gameplay possible on your hardware.

in other words, if your system gives you CPU frame times 4ms .. 6ms, and your GPU frame times are anything between 3ms and 10ms, without FPS limit, then you should limit it at ~7ms which equals 143FPS. When limited play with PerfOverlay.DrawGraph=1, and watch for the graphs - you want yellow line to be straight. If it fluctuates sometimes - no problem, but it should stay constant mostly.

Personally, I find, that this game is smooth enough for me only with both frame times less than 7ms. While CSS or Q3L for example are OK on anything higher than 100FPS (<10ms), but those have other engine...

Sorry if its obvious, but in the above example, how did you get to the figure of 143FPS for the limiter?

Nice work. Dont really understand it when I had frame rate limited to 121fps in the game the whole time since my screen is only 120hz.

Code:

It is possible to get errored data points, I am looking into tossing them out right now. It should fix issues. So far though it may be a bug or related to frame capping.

Be sure to upload a log in a post so I can use it to test my program.
