Bad active adapter?

Hey all,

Got my Active DisplayPort to DVI adapter in the mail today and it doesn't seem to be working correctly. Whenever I have it connected, the second monitor is recognized but the screen is black and the resolution is unchangeable and stuck at 640X480.

I have tried with another adapter. (pretty sure it was a passive displayport to DVI) and it works just fine. I have also re-installed AMD control center and still get nothing .

Did I purchase the wrong adapter or is this one a dud?

Whenever I connect the Displayport to DVI adapter to my video card, this is what windows Display option looks like. The monitor is still completely black and the resolution is unchangeable at 640x480. I can still drag stuff to the monitor though, just can't see it.

I have another adapter similar to this one that came with my video card and it works just fine. Plug it in and the monitor picks up a signal no problem.

Still not sure what the problem is. I'm just trying to get a second monitor up and going and not sure what the issue is. Any ideas guys?

Sent the first adapter back via RMA and bought the same one again (thinking i got a dud) and I still got nothing on the third monitor.

Do i need an active display adapter with a USB to help power it?
