Windows Tablets Power Button Functions

Thread Starter
Is there a way to make the power button on my Surface Pro turn the screen off? Sure, go to sleep in 20 minutes, but i want it to do something in the background with the screen off. Say I am copying a large file. Why does the screen have to time out? Stupid. Ideas?

I'm thinking there should be a way to code this. Is the power button an element that can be used in code in windows. Psuedocode:

When PWR=pressed, THEN SCREEN_OFF=1 AND LOCK_SCREEN=1

Yes,

Task scheduler> create new task, setup your criteria, then select the trigger> select the function, ie when bandwidth drops below xxix kbps. Or whatever.

Or just leave the event alone. Just remember all criteria, trigger, events you setup, and for pete sake name it something you will remember.
