The MS-3 has significatly better shape than the NAOS, while both are aimed to palm grip users. The MS-3 has also a way better coating, more rubber, less slippery, and it also does not get spots from your fingers. The MS-3 has better switches under the buttons too, with every button specifically designed how hard it has to be, and how sensitive it has to be (it also has more buttons) The MS-3's wheel is also quieter, feels better. And of course it has a dpi led, so you know what setting you are on right now.
Then again, i have had absolutely no issues on ANY surfaces with my MS-3, despite its a laser mouse. In fact my naos 7000 failed in the first minute, when i put it on the 1030L's fine side, where i used the MS-3. The pointer stops and skips on it. It also has way too much friction on qck, or the sargas i got with it. I am using it on the control side of the 1030 right now, the rougher surface seems to be better for this sensor.
But gaming wise... they are the same. If i miss a target, its still not because of my mouse smile.gif

Shape in general is purely subjective. The overall categorization palm, claw, fingertip doesn't mean that every single mouse in a given category will fit you perfectly.
Just because I claw in general I can't expect every claw grip mouse to be in my wheelhouse.

The mionix coating is the best I have ever touched, I prefer it over the offerings of Steelseries or Zowie but can't indeed comment on Func.
General echo for both coating and shape of the Naos is overwhelmingly positive though.
Same goes for switches. They manage to be as crisp as the ones on my FK but significantly more lightweight - which I tend to prefer.

The mouse wheel on my Avior doesn't make any sound at all is centered and rock solid, can't see how you can improve over that. Since I never change DPI during gaming sessions I don't see any benefit for me in an optical indication of the settings. Can't comment on the mouse pad you primarily seem to game on but actually I use the Avior on a qck and also got the sargas for free - it works flawless on both.

I gamed the majority of the time on laser mice. By itself they are totally fine for me but in comparison to optical mice they just are less precise. That doesn't make me a roxxor pro gamer by any means using a optical mouse nowadays nor does it mean the majority out there playing on cheap ass whatever kind of mice will beat me in most games. Still my personal preference nowadays are optical mice and going back to my G9x from time to time the Avior feel noticeably more direct in control and snappier.

If laser mice would be significantly cheaper you could argument that minor drawbacks in control are out weight by the price difference but since you find solid optical mice also in the low range price segment already there is just little reason to choose an 9500 or 9800 mouse today anymore.
I'm not arguing either lazer or optical. I honestly don't know enough yet to make any opinions that aren't just replicas of others'. I just wanted to express that maybe there were too many overly black or white statements that confused me, and weren't entirely realistic. I think my issue is that as a newcomer looking for both subjective and objective opinions based on actual data and personal experience, I've seen highly polarized statements with little in between. As someone who hasn't invested much time into it, which is not anyone else's fault, this is kinda disconcerting. Who do I believe? On one side you have people saying lazer mice are crap and useless, while on the other hand you have people saying their "enter-name-here" lazer mouse is excellent, and they have footage of them killing it with said mouse. Are they being paid to say that? Are they swallowing the nonsense that is high DPI? I have no idea.

That's of course not meant to be confrontational, I'm just at a loss on what to do. Ultimately I need a new mouse and I'm hoping that the Avior will be right for me. Like I said, I'm definitely going optical. I really want to give it a shot and see for myself whether it's that much of an improvement. Then I'll have my own opinion. It's just a matter of finding the right one for me.

Don't get me wrong I think most people - including myself - can do really fine using laser mice but of course these kind of forums tend to make the arguments pro optical bigger than they should be - than again it's overclock.net where everything is about maximizing and getting the last percent performance out of your rig, so if there's just half a percent improvement using optical equipment over laser it will sound like a difference of night to day :-).

My fingers on my original Logitech would rest around the mouse wheel position, well away from the end of the buttons. The index finger being shorter than the middle would rest at the middle of the scroll wheel while my middle finger would rest slightly after the scroll wheel. On the Logteich mouse I'm currently borrowing, an M705, with my usual grip the middle finger is on the edge or even off the right click button entirely and my index finger is 1cm from the end, 1cm after the scroll wheel. It's a substantially smaller mouse and I don't find it nearly as comfortable. It's fine for claw grip and sometimes for a hybrid grip, but I can't comfortably maintain either of those positions indefinitely. Like I said above or a page back, I use a variety of techniques; basically whatever is most comfortable and most natural in that particular situation.
I'm used to wireless mice, so weight is not that much of an issue for me. I prefer longer mice, something that conforms to the hand but that also allows for a hybrid claw or fingertip grip.

Sounds to me like you would love the 502, but Nivity would not. It is a long mouse and weighs 120g.

Yeah, it looks great. It's just a shame it's not available over here yet. If I knew how long it would take, I might pick up a cheap £10 mice until then so I give back the borrowed mouse, but I don't know when they'll be in stock. I could email Logitech I guess.

This is the way I hold my G400, it's something between claw and fingertip grip. The question is: Which mouse will I like more, MIONIX AVIOR or Logitech G502?

Really? If you use it for more than 10 minutes that's not even a problem.
