First water cool setup, need input on small loop for Fractal 304 build

post #1 of 15
Thread Starter
Build;
4770K
8GB DDR3 1600
500GB WD RE3
GTX 660 SC
430W PSU
Fractal 304

Chips in loop
477K and 660 SC

Parts on hand already;
--1x 120mm Coolgate Radiator
or
--1x 2/140mm Coolgate Radiator
--EK Full cover 660 WB
--MCP355 Pump w/ Koolance top
--Small cylinder reservoir

In cart;
XSPC Raystorm cpu block
3/8"x1/2" PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LRT Tubing White

Need to pick out;
--Barbs
--Elbows

I think I have narrowed down to color, the placement of pieces and loop order but not sure on elbows or barbs or rotary or?
Looking to do Black, Red and White color scheme. Black- Case, board, psu; Red leds, fans; White- tubing, cpu block top

After reading some about the bitspower rotaries, it is making me second guess rotories as a whole due to the close proximity of everything in an ITX but some of the bends I have I may need them.

Working dimensions (this does not include placement of psu, gfx or other wc parts);
7"(H)x12.25"(D)x8.5"(W)

On to the pictures!

Original loop plan (res can be seen in pics below)-
sytsuc.png

Modified loop plan-
x44ylx.png

Mock-up staying within dimensions 7"(H)x12.25"(D)x8.5"(W);
orr0d3.jpg

xpzbxe.jpg

r0xrp3.jpg

j73yb9.jpg

Questions;
1. For fixed elbows, how do you get them to position without leaking (when something doesn't line up)?
2. Are rotaries that much to worry about?
3. Do I need a reservoir for this size loop?

Any help, input and guidance is appreciated,
Thanks,
Outlaw

AC fatboy barbs are my personal favourite.
A reservoir is much more efficient when it comes to filling and bleeding a loop. You don't need; but it's recommended.

Thanks. I will have to see how those will fit. The extra surface area would be nice for some zipties but the limited space concerns me with the bends I need. I will have to get the 45 or 90 fitting and the barb to go in that.

For the res. I think I could use this - http://www.jab-tech.com/rotary-adapters/bitspower-g1/4-matt-black-q-rotary-adapter-bp-mbqr-c/

I would mount it between the pump and res using male-male fittings to allow me to run the rad to the pump (lowest point) instead of running a long line around the rad to the top of the res (highest point).

We have a great thread of consisting of what PSUs to look at for any size from 400+ on these forums. Or you can go ask in the power supply sub forum and have shilka and two cables beat you over the head with it. There are 2 SSDs that are preached around here. M500 and Samsung.

Thanks again.

I'll have to go stop over by the PSU section. The CX430 works for the current setup but I think I will be pushing it too far once the install is done and possible OC is maxed.

The HDD, I was looking at the Samsung 840 Evo or last gen 830 if I can save some money. I was hoping for a 250GB but might have to drop to the 120/128 with the 500GB I have now as a game install drive.

I didn't go with the AC fatboys because I ordered the barbs and fittings from jab-tech which weren't available.

Thanks again,
Outlaw

the ac fatboy barbs i have arent compatible with my bitspower 45* elbows. the thread length on the barbs are too long to fully thread into the 45* adapter. so imo it was good you bought the swiftech barbs.

I just assume you are going to cut your case top open?

I am looking to see how this build will work out because I am making a node 304 myself, with CPU loop only thou. Right now I have no plan to cut the case but depending on hoq it will work out for you, I just might and put 290 in loop as well.

Good luck building that little badass.

yes. The plan will be to cut the top to keep the same footprint. Thinking about it now, I may be able to do a P/P setup if I mount the fans on top of the case but not sure I want to go with that.

Hopefully I can be helpful with that. It may still be a few weeks though as I just ordered the rest of the parts yesterday.

Here is a pic of how big it is;

Thanks, I will need it!
