MB
what about this MB? its $40 more
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX
whats the difference from
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P AM3+ AMD 970

ram question
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C11D-8GXM
what on earth is the difference? besides $5 and one is red, one black, and one blue (faster one.. right?)

Motherboards: Aside from the obvious (the 40 dollar more one has the better 990x chipset), the 40 dollar more one has more caps alongside the cpu vrm setup, seemingly better heatsinks on the nb/vrms, more pci express slots (4 vs 2), the pcie x16 slots can run at x16 at the same time vs x16, x4 on the 970 board, 2 esata ports and 6 internal usb headers, and imo a better onboard sound.

Ram: The red and blue ones are identical except for the different heat spreaders. The blue one has a higher speed (bandwidth) but worse timings. I honestly wouldn't worry about ram too much because the gains you would get are not nearly as much as getting a better graphics card or cpu. The FX series isn't starved for ram bandwidth, so any of those are appropriate. If you like g skill memory, I would go with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-231-567 and use that 15 dollar off coupon. You really won't notice the difference in speed.

The 990FXA-UD3 does come with more features, but I would assume these are features you have no need for.
The 990FXA offers better support for using dual graphics cards, but I would assume your only going to be using one graphics card.
The 990FXA might offer better on-board sound, but you can get better sound from a add-on sound card.
