Edit on Post #157 & Below with system upgrade / AIO cooler

EDIT: Photos of the finished and after are here:

Edit:

If you are coming to this thread, it started as a way to change fan controllers form a DigiDoc V to something better. This then turned into a whole modification of the case from a $20 mod to about 200+$ We have:

1. Moved HD Bays on the PC-70
2. Moved / rearranged fans
3. Drilled into the side of the case to open ports
4. Rewired and made the case look "Tighter" and better Cable management
5. Next steps are to drill hols in the bottom for a fan

So I am in need of a new Fan controller and need help understanding how I setup my fans 14 years ago(I dont remember at all....) so I can ensure they will work in a new unit and advice on how to setup my side fans.

In short: I need a new fan controller for around 9 fans. I also was told that I could get an adaptor to connect all the fans into just a power cable and they will just run the whole time. I am cool with this. B. options for 2 80mm side fans

I did my best, got a new G2-1300 Watt and there is no bringing my Digidoc 5 back to life. IT goes on then off then on then beeps to who knows what.
14 years Digidoc 5 I salute you! (photos below)
DaRig_1274.jpg

So the main thing is I plan to connect 8 fans to the new unit I was hoping you would help me choose. However I have 2 issues:

1. I dont remember the cables so correct me if I am naming them incorrectly see photos below. If you look at the below photo on the left I have 2 80mm fans ( believe thats what they are)
I am not beholden to them as these Panaflos have held on for 14 years, but if I could get something quieter that pushes more air I would go for it.
A. If I get a new fan which is a good model to buy that is quiet and pushes a good amount of air (would fit on the side of my case.

B PROBLEM: if you look at the two pictures I circled how the connectors are loose. When they were connected to the digidoc they would go on and off since the wiring that connects them to the connector itself would not stay firm, thus the fans would not stay on.

B both on the bottom of the photos is a 3 pin Extension cable where the wires are not connected stronglyinto the plug anymore. It makes sense that this happened since my side panel does not stay on due to the massive heatsink on my cpu.

THe other cable is just the fan cable (longer for some reason) and it seems to have a loose connection as well of the wires into the cabling where I need to always push the wires in to stay into the adaptor Initial Cable problem Images! (Click to show)

This is the photo of the connectors that connect into the Digidoc unit, not sure whats wrong with it but I have all my cables to this area so prefer to stay in the panel

EDIT This has now turned into a full Lian Li- Pc70 USB case redo: Post #24,#37 (Click to show)
Setup right now
Top 120mm is Intaking air - blowing through the center of the case
Rear fans are Exhaust (disabled 2 80mm fans above PSU
Side fans Installed 1 92mm fan Intaking air onto GPU (closed off the top port so I could close the case. let me know if you disagree with this
Next Project - Wed / Thursday I recieve the HDD Rack and will move the Hard Drives from the bottom of the case to the 5.25x bays with a 120mm fan.
Next Project Install a 120mm or 92MM (or combination)fan into the Hard Drive bottom cage to blow air towards the PSU.

Also check Post #24 Pictures/Converting (Click to show)
The 2 92mm fans and controller came in today. I placed the order for the hard drive bay as well.

Question:

I took out the old 2 92mm fans and loved how the case looked close... since its finally closed and I dont have to worry about hitting it with my foot 8-)

2. the 120mm fan is a Nidec Beta V on the the Nidec website it says it only pushes 85CFM @37dBA. Should I purchase a fan that does more?
http://www.nidecpg.com/fanpdfs/ta450dc25_201106.pdf

The side cover will close with the bottom fan connected. It wont close with the top fan connected due to my CPU heatsink. I am running loops of EVGA's Oc Scanner, not sure its the right test since the gpu temps are at 60-73C. The side fan also only is blowing cold air at the moment (when I feel it). I dont want to be taking cold air that is hitting the GPU out either.

Granted this is not the right test since the HD Bay is still being blocked.

Should I just put the grills on take these 2 92mm fans and find another place to put them?
Post #157 Purchased an NXZT X31 Help for placement / fan choice / Keep or upgrade to another 120mm AIO vs Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme HS (Click to show)
Here is the Post:
Basic questions: Keep SilenX ixtrema Fan or use NZXT or use the Nidec 120mm Fan
2. Blow Air Out while before it was an intake also how do I get two on this?
3 Is there a better AIO 120mm soluton?

Thermalright may not be to very best, but it is still one of the very best. Silver Arrow IB-E Extreme (TY-143 2500rpm 130cfm fans) is arguable the best cooler out, but only because of the extreme fans it uses. Nice thing about it is that if fans are ran to same 1300rpm limit as others it is the same volume.

Others at the very top are Cryorig R1 Ultimate (R1 Universal is 2c warmer), Phanteks PH-TC14PE and NH-D15.

NH-D15 is extremely wide. It is 75-76mm from center of CPU to each side .. meaning any PCIe socket less than 80mm from center CPU is unusable. Center CPU to front of fan is 93.5mm. Fins are notched for better RAM clearance, but height of RAM minus 5mm added to 140mm fan is the case CPU clearance needed for fan to fit over RAM .. often a problem with tall RAM.
NH-D15 is 75-76mm center CPU to PCIe socket side and 93.5mm to front of fan.
Size with fan is 150x161x165mm

R1 Ultimate is 70-71mm center CPU to PCIe socket side and 65mm to front of fan.
R1 Ultimate is 70-71mm center CPU to PCIe socket side and 48.5mm to front of fan.
Size with fan is 142.5x140x168.5mm

PH-TC14PE is 70-71mm center CPU to PCIe socket side and 92mm to front of fan.
Size with fan is 140x159x167mm

Silver Arrow IB-E is 68nn center CPU to PCIe socket side and 77.5mm to front of fan.
Size with fan is 155x129x165mm

These are definitely not the only great coolers, but are most of the best.

Here's a list of many of the top coolers and their sizes.
Several of the newest are not yet included. Several of the newer ones ike the Cryorig R1 Ultimate and Universal off-center to the rear 18mm (38mm center of CPU to fron of radiator). Ultimate has 13mm thick front fan. Also the new Silver Arrow IB-E (off-center 9.5mm for better PCI-E clearance; 67.8mm center of CPU to edge of cooler) and TRUE Spirit 140 Power (as good as NH-D14 and quieter).

I ordered the 5660 for $185 after shipping and everything... Fingers Crossed that I got a good deal.thumb.gif

Then since my fan controller (Digidoc 5 rest its soul after 14 years) died I spent another $50 on 2 fans and a controller:

I bought an NZXT Grid internal 10 channel fan hub
https://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/123-grid-fan-hub

Then not sure I did the right thing but I decided to replace my Panaflo 92x92x25 42CFM fan with a 58CFM version adds about 5 more decibels.... VS the SilenX 14decibel 42CFM fan.

Think it will influence cooling? I have these 2 fans basically blowing on the GPUS and then 2 120mm SILENX fans on the heatsink one on each side blowing towards the back of the case to 2 80mm outakes:

...I think you'd be better served with a new case, if you were worried about noise in any way. Just my honest opinion. You'd do better with larger, newer fans instead of fiddling with the old ones. redface.gif

this is OCN so naturally when you have a perfectly good case that is REALLY OLD....

biggrin.gif

what do you mean it wont fit a 120mm or 140mm fan? biggrin.gif

Beautiful old case! thumb.gif

Sorry but two 92mm fans are only slightly more than a single 120mm fan.
2x 92mm fans = 107.7sq mm of area
1x 120mm fan = 101.5 sq mm of area.

Two 58cfm fans at 35dBA each is will be about 38dBA.. That's assuming the 35dBA is correct. My guess is 2850 rpm will be louder than 35dBA

Panaflo H1A 92x25mm 2850rpm, 56.8cfm, 35db making 2 fans 113.6cfm 38dB
Panaflo H1A 120c35mm (FBA12G12H1BX) is 2500rpm, 104cfm, 41.5dBA
9.4cfm isn't much and 3.5dBA difference is just barely noticeable to human ear

By comparison
Thermalright TY-143 140x26mm, 2500rpm, 130cfm, 45dBA
Silverstone SS-FHP-141 140x38mm, 2000rpm, 171cfm, 43.5dBA

It wasn't a bad choice when GPUs weren't using 200 watts of power on their own, but nowadays they can, do, and will.

Right, so since I don't really want to WC what would be the right thing? Dremel more into my side panel and put a bigger fan on it?

You could mount some fans in the 5.25 bays if there's nothing in the way of obstructing airflow, but that wouldn't do much aside from cool the CPU unless you duct the air down.

It looks like you could move the HDDs to the very top of the case with 5.25 adapters and that would give the fans at the very bottom of the case a straight path to the GPUs.

Eitherway, you're still dealing with a lot of fans to wire, the cable spaghetti would not be a fun one. Modding the case to fit bigger fans is up to you though thumb.gif
