Sounds good Doyll.

Will wait for the new fans to come in and will place an order to move my hard drive cage up to the top. Need to see which one to buy.

I will turn off the PSU fans, those 3 small back vents will leave alone

I will run 2 tests on the side panel fans when I get the new fans since these are basically shot. Curious to see how much hotter/colder the case will run based on which way they are turned.

Would be curious to see how much of an influence it has.

What about the 2 80mm fans in the front of the case, they are set to high at this point. But is it worth buying new ones?

a 5.25 bay fan adapter simply needs 3x5.25 bays to fit. so basically if you look at this pic

you would move the blueray player to where your current fan controller is. by doing so and removing the 2 x 5.25 bay covers, you have a 3x5.25 bay area that you can install the 120mm fan adapter/cage. you want to move the blueray player there because it would act as a "roof" for the airflow from the 120mm fan and direct the airflow more towards the CPU section of the case rather then allowing the airflow it to roam freely up on top of the case where no heat is being produced.

i would also recommend using something like this

instead of this

because you are relocating the HDD from its cage on the bottom of the case to allow for better airflow from the front intake fans to the titans. you can leave the cage in place because the cage is somewhat acting as an air tunnel to focus the airflow from the front intake to the titans, but you need to remove the HDD's so it's not blocking the airflow from the front intake to the titans. as a result your HDD's will need a home elsewhere in the case and that's why you need the 120mm fan adapter WITH the HDD cage to house your evicted HDD's from their previous home at the bottom of the case smile.gif

as far as air filter, since the lian li already has a housing for placing filter, i would recommend the "cut to fit" type air filter made for window AC units. swifter dust collector pad you are using is far too resistant to allow for good airflow. it's almost like putting a cardboard there as an air filter biggrin.gif

as for the 3x40mm fan holes next to the titans... those fans produce entirely way too much noise for the amount of air they move so it's best not getting those types of fans. even if you did get those fans. they won't really help much anyway.

So I went ahead and placed the order for the EX-36-A1

http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/ex-36b1/

Will cool 4 Hard Drives and 2 SSD's with a 1 120mm fan

I should also be receiving the new 92mm fans and controller tomorrow will keep you guys posted.

The 2 92mm fans and controller came in today. I placed the order for the hard drive bay as well.

Question:

I took out the old 2 92mm fans and loved how the case looked close... since its finally closed and I dont have to worry about hitting it with my foot 8-)

2 Questions:
1. Would air circulate better with it full closed? If so I could always install 1 92mm fan as an exhaust and tape up the top grill

2. the 120mm fan is a Nidec Beta V on the the Nidec website it says it only pushes 85CFM @37dBA. Should I purchase a fan that does more?
http://www.nidecpg.com/fanpdfs/ta450dc25_201106.pdf

EDIT:

Got the 2 new fans and the controller: Same questions as above. I have the bottom fan set as an exhaust(before it took air in). I also cleared up the cables so the 120mm from the top has more room. When my xeon and hard drive bay comes in I will do a bigger job moving cables around. Please provide your input if you could on 1 vs 2 fans as 92mm. I am concerned that if the top fan is exhausting on the side panel it would take away air from the cpu.

The side cover will close with the bottom fan connected. It wont close with the top fan connected due to my CPU heatsink. I am running loops of EVGA's Oc Scanner, not sure its the right test since the gpu temps are at 60-73C. The side fan also only is blowing cold air at the moment (when I feel it). I dont want to be taking cold air that is hitting the GPU out either.

Granted this is not the right test since the HD Bay is still being blocked.

Should I just put the grills on take these 2 92mm fans and find another place to put them?

37dba is entirely too loud for normal use biggrin.gif especially in an aluminum chassis since the aluminum is more prone to vibration noise. you shouldn't exceed 25-26 dba for a fan that you intend to use on a daily basis.

as far as the side panel fan, you should leave it on intake since you have 2 exhaust fans only 3 inches away from it biggrin.gif don't worry about exhaust. you have plenty of exhaust already. your problem right now is to achieve sufficient intake to match the exhaust rate once you put the air filters on there. remember intake takes a hit on airflow rate due to the air filter. so you should always have more intake (filtered of course) then exhaust to achieve some balance in the overall cooling system. ideally you want very slight positive pressure inside the case so dust does not have a chance of entering the case. (assuming your intake fans are all filtered)

I am going to go check out SilenX they have a 90CFM fan at 14 dBA.

Right now I have the side panel fan switched to exhaust(air is blowing out of the case. You are saying to put it back to what it was from the onset with air blowing into the case from the side panel. Then when I get the HD array put a 120mm fan (could also put my other 92mm) into the hd Drive Cage blowing air into the GPU's

Just returned from work and this thread took off on its own smile.gif

Wow that Lian-Li thing really was expensive. I totally didn't notice the price tag yesterday.
If you can compare the temps with your HDDs still in place at the bottom and with the HDDs moved into their new cage in the 5.25 area that'd be a good place to start. For temp testing I mostly use folding but any constant load will do. Maybe give it 15-30 minutes per run to heat up and stabilize and then see where you end up. Maybe also do a run with the side panel completely away to see what happens then. It helps if you have a regular thermometer near the intake of your pc so you know what the ambient temps are. You're shooting for a low load-temp minus ambient delta.

If your top GPU is much hotter than the bottom one (and I suspect it is) you could try and fix a fan like in this picture

That'd be directing air towards and in between the gpus. Friends had to do exactly that with their mining rig. That one consisted of 3 or 4 7970's and they were close to overheating. They used some 3A 120mm server fan that sounded like a jet engine though but it worked. The concept seems sound but I have no idea how much of an improvement that'll net you with a regular quiet fan.
If you have some duct tape or zipties or some other way of attaching it for a test run, maybe it helps somehow.
Having the remaining side door fan as exhaust seems like the most sensible choice for that setup.

As for dust filters. I have heard (but never got around to try) that cut-to-size ladies nylons also work as dust filters. That swiffer is really far too restrictive like psyclum already said. smile.gif

i like silenx, however that 14 dba claim is a total lie biggrin.gif no 90CFM fan is that quiet no matter how they build it biggrin.gif

there are some nice choices such as the low speed scythe GT's, noctua's, phanteks, or thermalRIGHT (not to be confused with thermalTAKE). if you are looking for a budget fan yate loon is also often recommended for the value side of the selections. you are already using a thermalright CPU cooler so you have some idea of how they perform.

and i would definitely recommend having the side panel fan as intake since you are trying to pump as much cooling air as possible in the GPU area to feed those titans. the titan is a "reference" design cooler anyway so it's external exhaust. meaning the amount of heat that leaks into the case that needs to be exhausted is minimal. you just need to feed it PLENTY of cool intake air and it will do its job and pump the hot air out of the case. most people forget that a reference design cooler counts as an EXHAUST fan in the 1st place when calculating internal pressure of the case smile.gif as long as you have enough cool air to feed the titans, you don't have to worry about it. it is designed to operate as an exhaust fan in the 1st place smile.gif

Perfect got an email that the HD Bay is Out of Stock. I ordered a SilenX 90CFM Ixtreme Pro fan. I may just switch it with the top fan and move the NADA fan to the bottom of the case into the HD bay with Zip Ties or vice versa. Thougths? I could probably also use the other 92mm fan or the top 2 80mm fans above the PSU into he hard drive bay.
