I've made suggestions for a starting point... one being to not load up the 5.25 to 3.5 adapter vent full of drives so it is almost worthless as a cool air intake for anything but the HDDs Your case looks like you could move one or two of the HDDs down into the 3.5 floppy drive bays. This would allow the 3x 5.25 some open space to move air through. The more open the intake fan vents the more cool air will flow into case and to components.

i think he should be fine. he has 3x cool air intake (2 x front 1 x side panel) in the GPU part of the case which should be sufficient to feed the titans. the intake air from the 120mm on the HDD cage wont be completely heated up by the HDD. he should have enough residual cool air for the ultra 120 extreme to do its job. as far as heat staying in his case, that wont be a problem since he does have 2 exhaust fans right behind the CPU cooler as well as the titans being reference style external exhaust coolers. he'd have MUCH bigger problems if he had internal exhaust GPU's. but as it stands, warm air will not stay in his case if you take into consideration of the exhaust fans on the back of the case as well as the titans being exhaust fans.

the floppy bay doesn't have much airflow at all so if he was to move a HDD down there, it'd have to be a 5400RPM HDD. 7200RPM drives doesn't do well w/o "some" airflow. if anything he might be able to leave one of the HDD down by the bottom HDD cage for the purpose of funneling air to flow towards the GPU side of the case. but that's not really needed considering he's already putting an additional booster fan on the back of the cage to help pull the cool air towards the titans.

OVERALL, his airflow is as good as we can make it w/o going to a new case and w/o the use of a dremel. smile.gif it's pretty impressive considering the age of the case and the amount of thermal stress he is putting on the overall cooling system. it's like a computer version of hot rodding smile.gif taking an old original chassis and dump tons and tons of horsepower into it biggrin.gif the fact that it even runs is already fairly impressive biggrin.gif CAN he get better temps? absolutely, but not with this case and air cooling biggrin.gif given his existing hardware requirements and no dremel involvement, it's hard to do much better then this:D maybe if he consolidated his HDD's into a single high capacity HDD or a bunch of 2.5" laptop HDD's, but the cost wouldn't be worth the benefit he gets. i doubt the temp difference is even measurable. as it stands, his case is doing FAR better then when he started and he's given his titans alittle more room to stretch their legs.

overall, it's really impressive if you consider he's running a gaming rig @ 6400x2560 resolution out of a 14 year old case design biggrin.gif that case was never designed to even handle 1/3 of the thermal load he's putting out on his rig biggrin.gif

Thanks I ram some benches yesterday and the titans dropped to 48c idle from 58. I even got a higher overclock.

It seems Opening the bottom does create a fun and the fans are blowing more at the titans.

I can do one of two things now.
1. Put only the 120mm fan in the cage to blow at the titsns

2. Also out the two top 80mm fans and attach them inside the Dan cage. Not sure that would sense sense though. Thoughts?

3. Anyone thing they can send me a photo or link for a cheap air filter? My two bottom intakes in the front of the case are using none since we swifter pads we're a bad idea.

Hard drive wise, I think it's better keeping them up top. They had 2 80mm fans before keeping them cool now it's 1 120mm fan and it's blowing the air hopefully out the top.

any local hardware store like home depot or lowe's etc should have the "cut to fit" type air filter in the window air conditioner section of the store. they are usually either thin foam type or electrostatic mesh types that you just cut with a pair of scissors. just ask the store clerk where to find them. just cut them to the size of the filter holder on the lian li and put the filter right in the filter holder. it works great and it's how i replaced mine when my original lian li filter crumbled to dust due to age biggrin.gif

as for the side panel fan, i still would go with the aluminum filter i linked in one of my previous posts.

Impressive work on taming all those cables! The temp drop on the titans is also real good. A whoppin' 10°, who'd have thought thumb.gif

Tbh I don't get the "no good corner" thingy. biggrin.gif The 120mm fan directed at the titans is experimental. I understand doyll saying an internal fan doesn't make sense because it just pushes air around but I've seen it work on sandwiched radeons. If you have a spare fan lying around I'd say it can't hurt to give it a shot. Might even work with a smaller one, who knows

So far, what unnecessary stuff did we make you spend money on?
HDD cage, some fans and some dust filters? I'd say that is still pretty civilized no? biggrin.gif

Really, different combinations need to be tested to see if they help or not.

Setting up a case for optimum cooling takes time and keeping records to find the best combination. Case cooling is one of the most important parts of building a system ,, and one of the most neglected my many builders.

1.Thanks for the props on the cable management. I am not joking it took me a really long time to put it all together. I feel its very ideal now.

2. Well I will attach the 120MM SilenX fan to the HDD cage and have it blowing towards the Titans. So far in Thief the cards ran at 85C when I O/C'd to +175 so lets use that as the base.

do you use 2 titans or 3? in some of the pics you linked there are 3 cards while others only show 2 cards... makes a huge difference if you are able to relocate one of the titans so they aren't sandwiched together.

I am only using 2 titans now, if I move the middle titan to the bottom the metal of the case blocks one of the exhaust ports which ends up overheating the titans. I need a dremel to open the metal on the bottom of the case so it can exhaust the air.

Warning: Hard Drive photos: (Click to show)

See on the bottom where its open and directly beneath there is full metal. I need to open that metal.

ahh I see. that's unfortunate the PCIe slots are configured as such. if the primary PCIe slot was 1 slot higher on your mobo you would have avoided this problem biggrin.gif oh well... something to think about if you ever decide to upgrade your board/chip smile.gif
