I see a lot of CaseLabs builds but it doesn't seem like too many people mod the cases. I understand they come spec'd pretty well but I am curious to see some heavily modified CaseLabs cases.
Its amusing how people don't understand that the allure of a CaseLabs case isn't just the quality. Its the fact that it is incredibly modular. So if you screw something up modding it (pun intended), you don't have to buy a whole entire case. You can just buy that part separately.
They are essentially very well made blank canvases that is up to you to decide to do what you want.
Richard Keirsgeiter, B Negative, p0Pe, Richard Surroz, Snef, and a few others have all modified CL cases (some of the biggest names out there in the modding world). You have to understand though, that those guys are making things that are impractical, because they make impractically awesome mods. That's what they do and that's what they're known for.
For the most part, the cases are so modular that there's really no need. External Rad box? Don't need one, you can just do a pedestal. Side panel window? Already there. Need a ITX case with efficient cooling for a Titan, 4960X chip, and RAM blocks? We have one. Need small OR long 5.25 mounting hardware? We have that too.
It runs deeper than that.... We recently released these: http://www.caselabs-store.com/flex-bay-5-25-device-mount-short-nonconforming/ The reason behind it is that a LOT of our customers also use the Aquero fan controllers. Unfortunately, the Aquaeros are out of spec. Their mounts are too wide for international 5.25 specifications. So, Jim and Kevin made these to accommodate those customers who own one (or any other 5.25 device that doesn't want to fit correctly). Now it fits just fine.
A LOT of items within our chassis, from Rad mounting needs to entire chassis (the Mercury S8 most recently) are driven by community feedback. We listen to what enthusiasts and modders want the first time around. If they're paying between 250 and 800 dollars for a chassis, they want something that they don't really have to monkey with when they get it. That's the beauty of our chassis.
While those you mentioned all have created some truly beautiful builds, only a few of them have modified cases.
Not looking for the best builds using a caselabs case, I'm looking for highly modified caselabs cases. And Kier's seems to be in the lead so far when it comes to that.
If it comes out like those renderings then I think he may just take #1. Will be sure to follow that build. Thanks again
Anyone else?
