Need some help finding a good set of headphones

So I have been looking around and have done some reading around but need some suggestions. What I would like is a good pair of over the ear closed back headphones. They will be used for gaming, watching movies, listening to music, and I will some times use them to do phone calls for work at home. I am going with a clip on type of mic. I will be using the headphones mainly on my computer but may also use them on my ipad and iphone around the house. Max budget is $100. Also needs to be somewhat sturdy. I have access to guitar center, best buy, and a couple music stores around town. I know its asking for a lot but if anyone has some suggestions that would be awesome. Oh and I listen to alternative rock, some blues, and I may throw in a little dubstep into the play list depending on the day.

ATH-M50
Sony MDR-7506 (newer version of MDR V6)
NVX XPT100 (based on brainwavz HM5 if you want to look up reviews)

The first two you can likely find at guitar center and price match amazon.

Ok after looking at the ones listed and after receiving a bonus from my job I have decided on the Audio Technica's ATH-M50x version. Will motherboard sound card along with iphone/ipad drive the headphones enough or is there a portable headphone amplifier similar to FiiO E7 USB DAC and Portable Headphone Amplifier (Black) or FiiO E11 Portable Headphone Amplifier - E11?

You shouldn't need an amp with any of them.

DrGroove thank you for the suggestions I picked up the ATH-M50x and they are amazing. I have been listening to several different types of music and its amazing how much different some of the music sounds from my hold gaming head phones. Even playing WoW is amazing hearing things I couldn't hear before and the crispness of those sounds is just awesome. Thank you again

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm going to be a first-time sound card user soon when i buy the Maximus VI Impact, and i've been doing some cursory searching for quality headphones. Does anyone else have any suggestions. Are those ATH-M50x's a set that would fully utilize the (probably middling?) sound card that comes with the Impact? I know next to nothing about what quality sound entails.

I have owned my ath-m50 (non x... /glares jealously at your fancy removable cable... biggrin.gif) i really have enjoyed them indeed. i have found them quite robust i have traveled with them and they are quite sturdy.

in my case i found the ear pads on the m50's a bit lacking comfort wise I put shure 840 ear pads on and i really like these on the m50's

a few months ago I went to guitar center and in the used gear they had a very tidy looking pair of beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80s for $80 i bought these for anyone that doesn't need the folding up / portability of something like the ATH-M50 ... these DT770s are so awesome very comfortable and fun headphones.. at home i almost always use the DT770s and then I take the M50's with me on the go frequently.

I'm really enjoying the head phones when playing music on my computer they blow away any other head phones that I have had before. The only thing I have noticed is when playing on my ipad is that even with max volume I would still like it louder. I think when I have some more cash I will probably try and find a good portable head phone amp. Sound still sounds awesome just needs a little more push.
