Thanks for all the replies everyone. I had figured that 2 PSUs would be the way to go but needed to ensure. I already have a corsair hx750 from my old build and can use that. Is there any problem using 2 different brand PSUs with different wattage ratings? Plan is to use the corsair for the mobo/cpu/hdd/ssd and my pump and various small things and leave the 1300W solely for the 4 290x.

The only problem like somebody mentioned is the space. I have a corsair 750d and it definitely is already filled up. Will have to either for a 900d or CaseLabs.

And regarding the 4770k bottleneck, I thought I would be ok. I know the ivy bridge E would be better for this kind of setup, but should I expect a huge performance decrease because of the 4770k? I ran some benchmarks with the 3 way setup and I'm within like 200 points of a heaven score that is using a 4930k that's overclocked to near 5ghz. I'm only running at 4.5 and that's with alot of voltage as well.

If you aren't a hardcore bencher then the 4770k will be sufficient for your needs.

Only major benchs that love hexas are Fire strike and Fire Strike Extreme.

As for the PSUs.... Overclocked and Volted 290xs will suck upwards of 400watt each.

Thats why I have two Seasoinc 1250watts in my system... One feeds the mobo+2gpus+Main SSDs+Pump. Other one feeds the rest of the system and any accerssiors.

I have a fourth 290x currently still in the box until I decide how to go about this. Do you think for a 4 way OC and pretty substantial along with an OC 4770k. a 1600w will cut it or should I use my 1300w and 750w corsair to power the potential 4 way set up? Obviously I will have more headroom with the 2 psu config but is it worth it ? I do plan on buying a kill a watt soon so I can gauge more accurately what my power draw is looking like.

Get a FSP booster x5 for your 5.25 slot, it may do the trick. I use one on a mining rig now and it works great for a 7970.

Just to add I have been using it on and off for about 5 years. Used to power my third GTX280, then it powered my third 7970, now I finally upgraded to a 1300w G2 for my 3x 290x.. But if I went for a fourth card I would use it again. Still working happily 5 or so years later in triple 7970 mining rig powering a single 7970. I give this little champ of a PSU a thumbs up, I didn't expect much when I bought but it has outdelivered my expectations. Just hook one of the four pin molex into it from your G2 and it powers on and off with your other PSU everytime.

Edit: was just looking at prices, they may be discontinued making them rare and more expensive, it was like $69 if I remember when I bought it. You could try to look for something similar auxiliary PSU.

Like the person with the Booster x5 (made by FSP Group)

I use 2 x booster X5 + an AX1200.

X5" s denoted by yellow arrow

The FSP Booster X5's are a great clean power , very low ripple power option that fits in a 5.25 bay. I run two of them in addition to a AX1200 for 2.2kW.

as far as the CPU bottleneck, I run a FX 8350 and have no bottleneck. I get great scaling to all four cards. This is at stock GPU cores,

Heaven 4.0 1920 x 1080 100 % GPU use with FX 8350. I get very god scaling with my eyefinity 5760 x 1080 setup as well.

I am using a pair of X5's in my new 4 x R290X rig currently under construction.

Hmm, I've never seen that PSU before but it looks to fill a void. Would that 450w be enough for the cpu/mobo/pump and ssds?

The FSP Booster X5 is a 12v dedicated PSU for GPU only. I have two of them in addition to the Corsair AX1200w.

Each of the X5's power a single  R290x and the other two  R290X's run off the AX1200w.

if you are going to overclock heavily 3 290x it will reach 2k W (outside)

As said the x5 doesn't have a 24 pin for mobo. Just 4 pcie cables.

yep,

They look like this and the specs on them are great. very low ripple, stay cool, efficient. the x5 uses a 4 pin molex from the main PSU to wake them up.
