No, not worth it at all, ESPECIALLY if your main game is BF4. This is one of the few (with more obviously upcoming) where the 8 cores are very competitve. It's my main game, and only CPU I'd consider a worthy upgrade for it would be an intel 6 core, and that's obviously another price bracket.

The fx-8350 especially with a bump in clock speeds will feel like a great upgrade over your current quad.

Edit: did you just buy the cpu, or all new mobo, etc.?

If this is a new build from scratch, overall a 4670k is a better choice - but the 8350 is comparable and hardly crap, despite what benchmark hoarders seem to post in every single thread

Either setup will be a good jump over your current cpu

Seriously, can we STOP spamming the page with tons of benchmarks? We all know low threaded games the FX series sucks in, it's known. But stop trying to sway the performance of the CPU as if all games are in that boat. Guess what, those games are easy to run on any modern cpu and as time goes on, games will only get more threaded.

There is not a game on this planet an fx-8350 can not run well in stock form - maybe not as good as higher end intel's but good nonetheless.

Let me just pick my own while we are at, you know, a more modern title.

I did just buy the board and chip, I have the rig all built, I'm just going to swap the chips and board, when I'm done playing with the gcard. I'm kinda torn right now between Intel and AMD. It seems I can get an 8 core for $200 or an i7 for $350-360 quad. I'll have to throw more money in, for a mobo, but somehow I think I should stick with AMD or at least do more research.

Edit* so a quad is beating an 8 core. seems about right?!

8350 is fine, nothing wrong with it.

well, my list of games that i play atm that easily fall below 60fps in heavy cpu cases are sc2, WoW and ps2 - on so called better cpu, haswell@4.7ghz, so i wouldn't call that good on a lower tier cpu @ stock, but depends on the person

4770k is $320 at newegg and amazon, though the competition for oc'd 8320 is the 4670k

And when WoW, sc2 and future rts/mmo or otherwise cpu bound games get mantle support, this discussion won't really be relevant - hopefully it happens before AMD's 2012-released FX becomes irrelevant, because i don't know of any games like this to be patched to mantle support or released new in 2014

yeah I will just keep the FX and be done with it. can't afford Intel right now anyway.

Edit* I'm here in Canada, so the prices are a bit bumped I would say. I still think I'm keeping the AMD as I already have it, and I can't afford a good six core Intel.

Intel's single cores are stronger than AMD's so games that only use 4 cores will end up in Intel's benefit.

but most games now are starting to utilize more cores and AMD's 8 cores are being used more.

the 8350 will hold it's own, especially in games that use it.

Since you're in Canda, I'm using Newegg.ca prices:

Intel 4670K: $254
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899

AsRock Z87 Pro4: $84.99 after rebate + coupon code
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157381

Unlike with AMD, you don't need a high-end motherboard with upgraded VRMs. The Z87 Pro4 will easy take a 4670K well past 4 GHz. Also, no need for a fancy cooler like you'd need to OC a FX-8350. A Hyper 212 Evo is more than sufficient for a Haswell chip.

I really dont think thats a good benchmark for pushing your angle. It shows me that overclocked AMD is competitive with Intel at stock.

I enjoy AMD for its much cheaper pcie lanes if I desired to build a GPU farm for F@H
