AMD No longer a viable option for mid-high end? - Page 62

Could some one please let me know if there is going to be anything new from AMD that is more like the 8 core FX-8350??
I have a A10-7850K and its nice and all but I am looking for a little bit more power for video encoding.
I was thinking of getting a FX-8350 or FX-8320 but dont want to, if there is something newer right around the corner.
I am looking for something twice the strength of what I have now to cut down video encoding times.
I do have my Cpu Overclocked to 4.4Ghz if that helps..

As i showed before, i5/fx are pretty close in performance there, to the point where binning decides who wins (a bad haswell will lose to a good piledriver, a bad piledriver will lose to a good haswell etc) (x264, last page) - those are your two value options

Broadwell is a while out, no indication of anything new mid-high end from AMD so it seems to be either one of those. If you're the bruteforcing type, Haswell-E is q3 or even late q2 release with 8 Haswell cores and should be around twice as fast as fx9590/4670k at OC's

If you want to compare perf, i listed approximate scores at 4.5ghz on the last page for updated x264 encoder, here's the test - http://download1346.mediafire.com/pf1y1esf6qhg/2laifu8xqi6vz2g/x264+Stability+Test.7z

Which means, in my opinion, that if virtualization is something that's important to you, and you still want a rig you can overclock, a K series Intel CPU might not be the best choice.

I don't understand the infatuation with declaring one single CPU as the greatest thing for every single computing task. If such a thing were possible, there would be one model of CPU that went in everything from the cheapest phones you can buy to the biggest supercomputer in existence.

If you really wanted to you could even argue that FX CPUs offer something besides performance for enthusiasts, and that is the difficulty and flexibility of the AM3+ platform (I would speak for FM platform but I have no experience there) in regards to overclocking. AM3+ is very much a platform where you have settings to tweak which offer different performance. From my experience with overclocking SB, it's just a "welp I changed the multiplier now it's time to go talk about benchmarks in forums."

Yes K's don't because it's not something K series customers are into I guess. I won't argue that there is no such thing as best as I like my Xeon's and Quadros (even baby ones) I look to power consumption first over everything anymore. I recently ordered an E3-1265L v2 for the desktop from what I can read out there AMD doesn't have anything to compete with something like that. I built and FX for a kid and it was great fun to overclock and he plays his MMO's and is just happy as all get out.

Not in the case of Dolphin. Just because they are making avx2 builds doesn't mean that the said instructions are used effectively in practice.

The speed gain on Dolphin is a direct result of micro-architectural advancements. It's not AVX2 related.

well hey I was happy with my 6300 and 8320, my 8320 ran two 7970s just fine, hey in some games it still may be 20-30 fps slower in but hey thats fine

And cache performance IIRC

The cache performance is part of the micro-architectural advancements. It's part of the bunch, not something different.

How is that "fine"? You're paying 300+ dollars a piece for video cards and you're ok with being 30+fps slower than an intel rig? I don't understand your logic.

All 2011 K CPUs support vt-d.

it not all about fps its about the experience, if you are managing your refresh rate or higher and it plays smoothly, is the extra fps worth it? not really.
