AMD No longer a viable option for mid-high end? - Page 67

AMD. naming sceme for their fx cpu:s is interesting, instead of releasing new chips wih higher numberz they just sold (better?) higher clocked samples of fx8350 as 9370 and 9590, these should logically be named 8370 and 8390

Happy to run some benches though if people want results smile.gif
Yeah but seems you were the only FX tester with a graph. I wanted to use DX because it was more relevant for a wider variety of users and Your Mantle run was by far the best, didn't want to create too much of a stir.

It's all good, i'm actually running the 14.3 Beta mantle driver now so i might do some BF4 test range graphs tomorrow and see what happens (Not MP i know but MP isn't an option for me atm)

I can switch back to the 13.12 WHQL for DX testing if that would be better.

No need, just making some small points of looking for the whole picture and not taking everything at face value, but thanks.

OK this thread has gone on too long tongue.gif

And Point, can I mention, why aren't we calling Intel's chips "High end garbage?".
If AMD are the cheap low performing chips then Intel's are the wallet eating chips.

Same point.

My Athlon 760K is driving my HD 7870. And you could argue for gamers it's a pretty standard system for gaming. I've got my moneys worth so it's pointless for someone to try and get my to move to an I5 because I am not spending 150% more on it for it to do a few things quicker. I can go make a coffee and my Athlon would be finished by time I get back. < Reality. If your sat in front of your computer waiting to finish something (conversions, rendering) then you have too much time on your hands smile.gif go make a coffee or something, that AMD chip may do it slower but the price/performance makes it justifiable. It's not like it's going to perform like a Celeron or Athlon II (older) is it.

If your job or professional life entails something that time = money and energy costs are a concern then you can look towards something beefier, Opteron, Xeon or even a I7.

FX-8350 is the middle ground and it does something very well.

I think the point is to not have to come up with other things to do while your computer is working though. I agree, moving to a X5650 and overclocking would potentially be the best choice overall. More threads, more cores, easily obtained high frequencies on a modern system for less than that of a AM3/KM2/1150 etc chip. With those chips it blows anything else out of the water for "price/performance"

I dont believe the thread is meant to say AMD isnt viable at all, this is simply not true. This is for determining the high end. Besides I hate coffee thumb.gif

Amd cpu are great when budget matters.

This is where amd makes sense. We all know in gaming benches fx6300 overclocked with gtx770 can top a 4670k with a gtx 660. Both those combos can be had near @ $420 mark cpu +gpu.

I built a rig for friend using that setup. Fx6300 + 770 and he cannot believe how awesome the whole rig performed for what he spent. For gaming rigs where cost is a major factor up to around the $850 mark. Amd is hard to beat.

His rig is maxing every game out. It averges 60fps with bf4 maxed. It might be mid range to some but that is subjective.

actually fx8350 looks really good as a high end cpu(even against i7-3930k)

Am I missing something here? You can compare 3770k to 8350 all day long, but in the end you can get AM3+ motherboard + FX 8350 for the cost of a 3770k.

And of course there will be benchmarks where AMD is a major stinker. It was even like that when AMD was superior to Intel. They are different architectures with different capabilities, of course they won't always be 10% faster in every single benchmark.

While I agree the FX 8350^ being great processors that CAN give mid-high performance, in order to achieve that performance will move it out of that low price range. At stock it is a well performing chip well within medium level performance. attaining mid-high performance is easy but has some considerable costs.
