So I'm looking into trading my 3930k for a 4770k. I usually do gaming but sometimes do a little CAD and PS, so I don't think I'll need so much power. I highly doubt I'll use more than 2 of the lanes and no more than 16 GB of RAM. I just don't know if I should keep the 3930k for future proof reasons.
So is it a good switch?
If so I'll probably sell the MB for $310 just to cover the VI Formula and the 3930k for around 480.
I just went from a 4770k and ASUS Maximus VI Extreme (Formula before that) to a 3930k and Sabertooth X79, I was very happy with my switch and i don't even use all 6 cores for much more then benchmark. 3930k runs much cooler at higher clocks and voltage, and it just feels "snappier" also i like the thought both my 290x's get full x16 3.0 slots
In my experience I'd regretted every downsizing decisions I made. Mostly after 2010... It's like longing for an arm you once had.
Your 3930k is more future proof than the 4770k, and I'm sure you'd be able to find people who won't even bother to make the jump to 4930k. Why don't you wait a lil more til q4/2014 and see what Intel has to offer in their next line up if you must make the switch?
Some pretty good points you all have there... Yeah I'll wait a while and have a grade change when more is available.
Maybe I should just change out the IV Extreme for the IV Gene, because I feel like I'm just wasting space and not utilizing the MB's potential.
