Help settling my inner termoil [GPU Related]

Hello, all!

I've been looking into some upgrades to my system but I've been asking my self some mental questions to see if I really need it.

Do I need this, or just want this? Will it make a significant difference? Things like that.

I looked into a new SSD, modem and a few other things that I 'want' but don't need and couldn't justify the purchase at all.
But with the graphics card, I can't help by NEED it... But I think maybe my want is just too great.

Anyway! I'm running the GTX 680 DCII, so it's not like I've got a weak card... But I do have a 2560x1440 res monitor. And most games start taking a hit at that resolution on this card.
Enough for me to notice anyway.

So, I was looking at the 780ti. But wondering if the 3gb would be a bottleneck for me anyway. But what I really want, is the TITAN BLACK. Price is not an issue, but it's not as if I can just buy a card at that price and not care. I still need to be able to justify it.

Additionally, I'm thinking I need to just hunker down and wait for MAXWELL chips. (I understand the TITAN BLACK is, but I'm meaning more the 800 series and its derivatives)

Give me your thoughts from your brain-meats!

if price is not an issue, i'd do it, but seeing that you are running 1440p 27" monitor, games even on med- to med-high setting would be looking awesome, and that 680 should still be able to drive that resolution at decent framerate with those settings even on some latest games, unless you play something like Skyrim with 100+ mods. That being said, if it was me, i'd wait out until maxwell. As for Titan Black, compared to the first Titan is a total money grabber. Read this review in which it at best performs better within the margin of error of the 780ti, but at a steep price.

As for the want and need, i'd say you give that money out to someone who needs it **ehm...like me** wink.gif

at 1440p 3gb is not an issue or bottleneck.

Regarding the gpu itself, two regular 780s would be a better much option over a single 780ti or titan black for gaming.

I play on a 1440p @ 110 hz with a 780 ti... no bottleneck. Runs amazing, pushes about 60 - 100 FPS on most games on high or ultra

I have yet to see my 2x 680 Lightnings bottlenecked by 2GB @ 1440p, nor my 670FTW. The 780Ti Classifieds d on't even come close to beingmemo ry limited.

If you have some pointless desire to run 8xMSAA at that resolution, you have other problems, lol, but stick to FXAA and occasionally 2xMSAA and you will have significantly better image quality than 1080p at 2-3x higher AA for the same, in fact usually less, VRAM use with all other settings being equal.
