Where did you come up with that? I've seen people over here going around saying that the Blacks are made of better quality/enterprise level components. So you basically you went and asked WD whether they use higher quality parts for the Black line. This analogy doesn't apply to Desktop class Hard drives at all.

If all those Blacks you bought are silent then thumb.gif though I highly doubt it biggrin.gif

& yet (from a business perspective) shipping out a product with 2-3 years extra warranty & not using either better parts &/or better QA would be rather dumb business practice. Did you go to WD & question them? rolleyes.gif

probably because your are spouting your opinion & personal experience as if its cold hard fact *thumbdown*

new blacks (3FZEX) use 1TB platters.

I have a ton of blacks (.2FAEX - see sig), love 'em all. Reliable, yes. Noisy? Dunno.. not as noisy as my raptors/v.raptors & not as quiet as the couple 5400rpm sammys I have.

I would never trust a desktop seagate. Never.

On my personal trusted list is: Hitachi/Toshiba both DS & US, WD REx, SE, Black, Red & V.Raptors, Seagate Cheetah
Distrusted list is: anything Seagate that isn't Cheetah, WD Blue & Green.

The 3FZEX are 800GB platters:

Only the 1TB WD1003FZEX has a 1TB platter
