Noticing that the IPC is still a good 50% higher, definitely making the fact that the 8320 is overpriced and a waste of money.

You should stop claiming that a 8320 is futureproof when futureproof is nonexistent, before we'll see games all being optimized for all of its cores it would form a massive bottleneck so no point even bringing this up. Something thats outdated now, will never ever be futureproof.
It should be mentioned that he's buying a cpu with IPC from 2008, he's planning to game and do some overclocks but since AMD's cant even keep up with Intel even at 5GHz, there's no point getting one.

Futureproof is a relative term and means different things for different people.

It should be mentioned that it ultimately has nothing to do with the OP and his question. IF he had asked what route he should go in terms of vendor then I would be a little more understanding. However this is not the case.

The 4430 is a dead end chip, especially so on a locked motherboard.

Furthermore why would he get a desktop that has less capability than his mobile laptop? That chip would already have the performance of around a 3770. Its a step backwards.

I'd choose a FX 6300 over a stock i5 which cannot be overclocked.
6.31 with a FX 6300 at 4.9Ghz.

use r15, it's less biased

fx6300 or i5 really depends on the load and the i5 model (they range from ~3ghz under 4-core load to 3.7), the real power is ~6300 instead of pentium/i3

and even the 8120 hits 7.58 on cinebench @ 4ghz, that's cheaper still, and should run all the new titles coming for the new console's.

Now, I am no mathematician by any means, but last time I checked, 7.83 is a much bigger number than 4.57... if you know what I mean. rolleyes.gif

And that 7.83 can be yours for $30 less than it takes to get that 4.57. thumb.gif

You're not proving anything with some cinebench results.

Lets take a few ported games from console:

http://gamegpu.ru/images/remote/http--www.gamegpu.ru-images-stories-Test_GPU-Action-Assassins_Creed_4_Black_Flag-test-ac4_proz.jpg
http://www.hardwarepal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/1920x1080-Very-Low-Thief-CPU-Benchmark.jpg

Lets get now a CPU bound BF4 out with streaming results:

http://youtu.be/26UKz42uQ1Y?t=17m1s - watch @ 17:00

So now that we covered multithreading performance is a waste for gaming, I remain right. The i5 makes a mess of any AMD desktop chip and since many games don't even take advantage of more than 2 cores the i3 would do the same.

Uh no. No AMD would match a 3770 performance for general use such as gaming etc unless theyre clocked at 6GHz. And no an i5 isn't a "dead end chip", the 8320's IPC is 6 years old and outdated making it the perfect dead chip.

Multithreading performance is far from relevant for gaming, always have been about IPC and nothing more.

Do you have a locked core i5? We can bench. I'll make a mess of it with my Fx 6300 at 4.8Ghz wink.gif
