swapping a gaming pc for a gaming laptop. good idea ?

Thread Starter
I have a mid range gaming rig right now that I made myself
specs:
AMD 6300 stock
4gb ddr3 133mhz ram
Nvidia GTS 450
500gb WD hard drive
CX430 PSU
basic £60 motherboard
cheep case
LG disk drive

I also have:
27" 1080p screen (S271HL) for Acer
tt esports knucker
Razer SWTOR mouse (Dont really want to sell)

How much do you think I could sell it for or what spec laptop should I swap it for ?
I would like the same sort of specs in a laptop as the desk to if I could.
Do you think I can do it ?

I might not be accurate, but I can say you might sell it for $400 dollar or $500 dollar price range.
Which not a lot of laptops is powerful in that range, but I might be wrong.
I don't think you can get a "same" sort of specs in a laptop as a desktop because the laptop is pretty much using a mobile CPU and GPU. Which it is far weaker then a desktop CPU and GPU.

In my opinion, you only need to upgrade two things on your desktop. GPU and PSU.

I've seen Lenovo Y510P's go for $900-950 with SLI 750M's. It's quite a powerful specimen and very much a powerful gaming laptop. If you can get decent change for your desktop and combine that with some extra funds, you might be able to pull one.

I just sold a basic system like this and you will discover you will not be able to even side grade to a gaming laptop.

This is for guys in the US that may have the same question.
** US Dollar estimates

AMD 6300 stock Maybe $80
4gb ddr3 133mhz ram $25-$35
Nvidia GTS 450 Maybe $50
500gb WD hard drive $40-$50
CX430 PSU $ ....just keep this one for a back up. They go on sale for $20 with rebate
basic £60 motherboard $25-$40 I don't see any but high dollar mobos retain much value
cheep case $ keep as well. You don't want to pay to ship a case unless you sell local for cheaper than a "cheap case"
LG disk drive $ 10? Again this is an item that can be had new for little money so you will not be getting much for it.

You may have around $250 left over to put into a laptop, which won't get you very far. The cheapest option for a sidegrade to your current rig is the Lenovo y500s if you find one used. And remember that laptops get hot so add another $20 for a cooling pad if you are in a warmer climate (is anywhere in England warm?).
