I'll see how much the guy is willing to sell for; the only problem with ebay is that almost all the computers are scratched up and in worse condition than I would ever, ever do to my computer :/

If this doesn't work out, I have 2-3 more lined up, and if not those, I'll just get a refurb 15'' iris pro graphics laptop from the apple refurb store.

I would skip that guy did you read his feedback

If you are going to buy used MacBook Pro 15 Retina, then why not buy used from Amazon and throw in a SquareTrade warranty? Not sure if SquareTrade warranty is reliable or not, but I see them everywhere.

Amazon is much more expensive... The stuff I'm getting there for 1900+ is the same as what I'm getting for 1700 in eBay. I might just get the refurbished from the Apple Store since I'm pretty sure that 256 gb will be enough space for me during my college years. After that I can worry about another computer.

Hey, I found another one on eBay from a very trusted seller (over 500, 99.8% rating) who's basically selling a brand new rMBP 15'' 2012. It's on auction, but I'm pretty sure it'll end up around $1300-$1400 and shipping is free.

If I could get the 2012 vs the 2013, which one should I go for?

Depend which 2013 are you comparing to, I believe there are two 2013. One is Early 2013 and another is Late 2013.

Macbook Pro 15 (Mid-2012)
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP694

Macbook Pro 15 (Early 2013)
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP669

Macbook Pro 15 (Late 2013)
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690

Here is my difference between 2012 and Late/Early 2013 and that is 2012 does NOT have Retina Display.
I've been looking all over the site, and all they have is 1440x900 resolution. I don't know about you, but I prefer having Retina Display for that price.
It will have similar specs compare to Macbook Pro (Early 2013) except Macbook Pro (Early/Late 2013) will have a Retina Display.

Your choice. Is it worth spending $1300-$1400 for a Macbook Pro that does NOT have Retina Display?

Macbook Pro 15 (Mid-2012) will have an ethernet port while both Macbook Pro 15 (Early/Late 2013) does NOT have it, however, you can buy an adapter for it which it is extra.
If I were in your shoes, I would avoid it just because it doesn't have a Retina Display. I know I am using "Retina Display" all the time, but it is the only thing I can compare it those two. I mean, who would want to buy a laptop for a thousand dollar that doesn't have 1080p screen? It is stupid IMO.

Whoops! That's my bad. I meant early 2013, not 2012. For clarity sake, I'll refer to it as the previous Gen Macbook Pro retina.

Okay, if you are comparing Macbook Pro (Early 2013) and Macbook Pro (Late 2013), then it isn't a much of difference except Late 2013 has better GPU than Early 2013.
Yes, I believe Early 2013 use Ivy Bridge while Late 2013 use Haswell CPU, but I believe we already talked about the CPU performance. You won't notice a big difference other than Haswell runs cooler and doesn't take a lot of battery life while Ivy bridge is vice versa.
