R9 290 block

I'm looking at watercooling one of these babies, but I'd like to get some advice on the available blocks. I've read Stren's roundup and I'm wondering that actually how important is it to get a backplate. It looks like the AC backplate really has a lot going for it, but looking at the graphs it looks like the VRM didn't go above 50 even without a backplate. Now the part that interests me the most, would an AC backplate be compatible with an EK block? I got a pretty good discount on EK stuff for RMA'ing my old block so getting the EK block looks kind of a no brainer, but it looks like their backplate doesn't really affect the temps much, now if a backplate really isn't that important then I'll just opt not to have one (I really like the look of the bare pcb), but if it really matters the AC plate looks like the better option if it's compatible.

I have the Aquacomputer kryographics Hawaii acrylic glass edition and absolutely love it.

Good VRM contact, good build quality, no need for thermal pad on mem (use paste).

The graphs in Strens testing are not showing actual temperatures. As with all his testing and others, the graphs show the difference between the Core / VRAM / VRM temp and the coolant temp. If the coolant is 30 degrees then the VRM's would be 80 degrees.
That is why the temps with the backplates are so low. Cooling something to 25C would take a pretty cold room.

Indeed, forgot about that. Currently my water temp is 31°C with only the CPU and mobo in the loop, so I guess that warrants a backplate then, the remaining question is then whether I can use the AC backplate with the EK block or not.

Well according to the manuals they should work together, same screw threads, different lengths though will have to play around with that, also the holes align with the block, so I guess I'll order this combination sometime this week and then report back with the results.
