Wondering if anyone has the knowledge

Thread Starter
Alright, I have a laptop that I use for schoolwork, and some very casual gaming. Its got an AMD A8-4555m cpu in it, with AMD 7600g with it. dxdiag shows the laptops name as 'hp pavilion sleekbook 15' though i think there are intel variations as well. Now, I want to slightly overclock this laptop, but after much searching I cannot find any way to do it. I KNOW that you are going to say ill fry my system, but I work for a laptop building company locally, and I installed a larger bottom panel to it to allow more airflow, there is a lot of holes and vents, and I have a good gaming laptop cooler that it sits on top of, at full speed it stays very cool, so i know i can go higher. Another thing, this laptop has a turbocore tech that allows it to OC to 2.4ghz im pretty sure, but i think thats only for one core. what im trying to do is disable that, or allow the other cores to reach those speeds as well. AMD overdrive wont let me do it. Bios wont let me either.

I know some might say 'upgrade laptop' but this is a great machine for casualy gaming, and it was cheap. Please if anyone knows how to OC this cpu, and or gpu, i would gladly like to know

You will need to use this utility: BAR-Edit

Google for a procedure for your particular chip using that program.

You really do risk damage by OCing a laptop.

i would never oc a laptop which isnt that easy - its not like you can throw in a better heatsink or extra fans thumb.gif
post #4 of 14
I OC the GPU on my m11x in my Sig. It can be done safely as long as you know what the Maximum sustained temp is. Find that out then download hwinfo64 to carefully watch your temps while you play. And I would get a laptop cooler. I don't think HPs are known for their heat dissipation.

Im interested to see how your overclocking turns out.

1. Get HWmonitor (its free) and check the current idle and load temps of your cpu/gpu.
Run a heavy game like crysis 3 and check your temperatures, if they are cool enough you can try overclocking.

2. Get MSI Afterburner (also free) and use it to overclock the gpu a bit to see if there is some gains.
Its probably not safe to run the stress test / benchmark included with afterburner because it might overheat your laptop.

I've overcloked laptops before, with different software and such. Just couldnt find out how to do it with this one..I have a full metal, quad fan, laptop cooler that I use. Full speeds with benchmark software I am staying at low temps, (with cooler) so i know that i can go higher. I will lower clock speed when Im not playing a game and such, but yeah. Just want some better performance. Ill try out listed software and report back here!

Cooler does well with heat, I have it set so that two of the fans are sucking air out of the laptop, while the other two are pushing it in, works quite well in my opinion. Had to switch around some wires but oh well.

EDIT: msi afterburner doesnt overclock it, after pressing apply it will go back to normal clock speed.

hello,
not got a laptop or apu, but from what I have read the apu's gpu likes faster ram, maybe upgrading the ram as an idea ?
wait for others before you do, or if you know.

this is a good idea. You should check out the motherboard and igpu if it can support higher clocked ram.
Here are some low voltage ddr3 1866 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007609%20600000432&IsNodeId=1&name=DDR3%201866%20%28PC3%2015000%29
Not sure if size could be an issue but you'll surely get an fps boost without overclocking

That's one of those where the CPU and GPU are part of the motherboard, cant be replaced, and there is only room for 1 hard drive?
