You have the option use either Hotmail or Outlook as the domain name, and Microsoft said before the transition that this would be the case.
Unless a Hotmail/Outlook user doesn't log into the account for several months (I forget how many), emails should not be wiped out.
I guess I need to explain the obvious here. To, jsc1973
, I never said that if one had an email address with "email@example.com" that it would be automatically changed to something like "firstname.lastname@example.org". I can understand why you thought I said that, but that simply isn't the case.
I am well aware that people who had hotmail email addresses are still currently valid. But REGARDLESS
of whether you have an msn or hotmail domain as your email address, you still have to log into the Outlook web-based site. (alternatively, one could always configure an email client instead of logging into the web based portal). As proof to show you what I am talking about, punch in www.hotmail.com
(or simply hotmail.com) into your browser and see what happens. You will get redirected to Outlook.com. (or more accurately, live.com) THAT is what I was primarily referring to in my post.
