7850k + R7 240 or i5 4670k + GTX 750

The title says it all. I will be using a extremely small HTPC case that has a slot for a single half hight card. I could possibly mod the case to allow a single width full hight card. I don't plan on doing any hard core gaming and I don't expect to be able to. I just want to get the most I Power I can out of it. I will only be able to use a picoPSU so the most I power I can get out is 160w. The only other things I will be using in this build are a single SSD, a wd green drive, and a slot loading slim Bluray drive. The power limit is why I am leaning towards a intel build with a maxwell card. I'm not even sure if it's possible to run any GPU on that much power. If so I'll just stick with the APU. But anyways I'm just looking for your inputs. And any possible mobo/CPU/RAM recommendations would be appreciated thumb.gif

Here is the case I plan on using

Use the 7850K, and ONLY the 7850K. if its an HTPC, you should forgo the graphics card, getting an i5-4670K with that GPU is a waste, the APU is just fine.

I wouldn't recommend making this build. That case only has an 80mm fan, and 160W is barely going to be enough to power the Kaveri chip on its own, let alone with an R7 240. The Intel build should also just barely get enough power, assuming you don't put a video card in it. I'd really recommend a case with better cooling and a slightly more powerful supply (probably around ~250W-300W would be more suitable). Someone with more knowledge than me can probably recommend a better option though.

Nope, Stock A10-7850K is 100W. 160 is cutting it close but fine. maybe the step Down APU (That one with the config of 65W or 45W) may be a better choice. Actually not maybe, it IS better. Try CM Elite 110 for a case, even if you use a PicoPSU.

The 7850K by itself might just be good enough for you. I tested one for a bit and it only drew 95 watts from the wall STOCK running 3dmark and gaming. Pretty efficient for what it is, compared to the 6800K anyway.

If you decide to go with just using the APU by itself, be sure to buy faster RAM, 2133 or 2400 will be fine. Also, the Gigabyte m-itx board was the one I used and it's great. If you go that route and plan on overclocking, be sure to update the bios with the beta bios. Otherwise your GPU overclocks won't work.

I would look for a different case that would accommodate a better GPU, but what you have selected would be great for the 7850K alone.

Thanks for all your information guys. I think I'll be going with just the apu. And as far as only a small intake I was thinking about doing what another member on here did and cut a hole for an 10th intake on the top above the cpu. Once steamOS is officially out of beta that's what I'll have on this so I guess I don't really need a GPU after all.

I'm glad we helped, good luck.
