narrowed it down to the video card. put video card in another machine it's working fine. gonna bread board the HTPC setup on card board (FYI metallic colored mobo boxes can be conductive) and see if the problem subside, which may or may not require yet another clean install. the clean install last night work for a a while till starting randomly rebooting with out a BSOD.

no go! will try a clean install but, at this point i'm thinking it's the mobo. i remember back in the day people reporting problems with the ASUS M3A78-EM.

Having the same exact problem as this guy but, with the onboard video disabled and a PCIe Nvidia GT240,

EDIT: interesting, http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?12776-problems-with-Asus-M3A78-EM&s=339ddd49fa6d10c816876937ce9bbcb5&p=46716#post46716

if true might explain a few things since i definitely have AHCI on (SSD).
