pc randomly freezes - Page 2

Some ideas:

-Check your hard drive for bad sectors
-Ensure all of your motherboard drivers are up to date (sometimes the updates themselves cause problems though)
-Check that the jumper is set to either "Master" or "Cable Select". Make sure you have a jumper to begin with :-)
-Check Device Manager for any yellow flags telling you that something isn't working properly

Also, did you run Windows SP 1 BEFORE you did all the updates? Sometimes that makes a huge difference.

Do you hear or see your hard drive doing any churning while the screen is freezing? Or see the HD LED blinking?

I just did a quick search on your drive and it seems that others have complained about those Blue drives having random freezes, might just be that your drive is going (or gone?) bad. Lots of people complaining on Newegg.com about new drives arriving DOA and/or with bad sectors.

I suspect that it's the hard drive causing these problems.

Some ideas:

-Check your hard drive for bad sectors Checked, nothing strange found.
-Ensure all of your motherboard drivers are up to date (sometimes the updates themselves cause problems though) up to date as far as i could find updates.
-Check that the jumper is set to either "Master" or "Cable Select". Make sure you have a jumper to begin with :-) the only jumper i can find is to clear my RAM settings.
-Check Device Manager for any yellow flags telling you that something isn't working properly no yellow flags or errors, only my wifi card that is turned off.

Also, did you run Windows SP 1 BEFORE you did all the updates? Sometimes that makes a huge difference. to be honest i don't really know. i installed windows => drivers => updates => more updates

Do you hear or see your hard drive doing any churning while the screen is freezing? Or see the HD LED blinking? Haven't really looked at that yet, i will write that down and check next time!

Any suggestions for a program which checks your hdd?

If your mouse is still moving its not a hard lockup...iv'e had windows updates cause issues with Windows explorer....if you hold cntrl alt and press delete does the menu come up for task manager? You said the task manager wouldn't come up I assume that means you get the menu but after clicking it, does nothing....I didn't read anywhere that you did virus and adware scans which should almost always be a first step...I had this issue with my last pc and it was fixed with removal of all video card drivers and reinstall...this includes manually cleaning up ager the installers...however I often got a hard lockup meaning nothing responds except power and reset burtons no input devices...although occasionally I had same issues...that fixed both issues for me but it can be alot of things...I would say if its been going on this long its not a virus or adware but i would run a few adware scanners and a thorough virus scan to be sure...and perhaps a run of ccleaner in case its a registry entry issue

Have you updated your Bios? LAN drivers? USB Drivers?

Also remove the 760 and download/upload something using Utorrent again & check for freezes.

Mouse is only moveable with changes from clicking to pointing but doesn't actually work neither does my keyboard. Also ran a few scanners with no bad results everything looks clean.

760 hawk is coming next wednesday so i hope this problem will be fixed by then. I updated my graphics drivers of my a8 6600K APU in the hope that's the problem. all other drivers are already up to date

I had this problem too. But I'm noob guide and can't remember i was fixed up Pc without frezze randomly.
1. Run Cmd, tpye "/Check f" restart PC, while booting press spam F8 (with cmd can't remember, My friend PC expert did. fixed)
2. Go to "Reduced windows", then tpye again cmd "/check f"
3. restart PC, don't press while wait % until completed, again restart. (I can't remember name while booting, with %)
4. Completely gone frezzing.

Basically what I got from last post is run checkdisk then reboot in safe mode and repeat.not sure why you would do it twice..checkdisk searches for damaged sectors and attempts corrections in file allocations (correct me if I'm wrong). if I remember right it also gives you a summary of bad sectors...haven't had to use that in a long time..years
