Reactions to violence in games - Page 2

None of the violence has ever bothered me in the sense that I was really shocked or disturbed, but the mortal combat series is just nuts IMO. It is probably one of the best examples of "too much of anything is not good anymore".

The only moment I can think of now is when I was maybe 7 and was playing Duke Nukem 3D(came for free with the joystick my dad bought for MechWarrior.) I think what really stunned me was finding adult mode(which puts women both decent and otherwise into the game) and then finding out that the game actually lets you kill them. What really got me though was that when you do kill them it spawns more aliens. For whatever reason I had a hard time wrapping my head around that. tongue.gif

I also find it funny that I'd frequently get bored of DN and then switch over to the 'much more interesting' Roller Coaster Tycoon. Innocent times those were. biggrin.gif

And yeah, Duke gave me a few nightmares. The big one involved me being sucked into the game and being shot at and watching my health drop wondering what would happen when it hit 0. If it wasn't for the fact that the dream continued after I woke up(!) it wouldn't have been any worse than any other nightmare. Seriously, I was talking to my parents and they were trying to comfort me but all I could see was the dream. Apparently that is actually normal for children and explains things such as seeing ghosts and 'monsters.' It's nothing more than the mind continuing to dream after you've woken up or starting to dream before you've gone to sleep.

The mafia 2 scene game the cringed as well.

I've never seen any thing that violent in games before like the mafia 2 scene, usually only in movies.

One game that I thought was over the top brutal would be Manhunt. The first time I played it on PS2, I was blown away by how violent things in it were. I had played allot of violent games such as every GTA series since III, and none of them came close to how disturbed I was the first time I played manhunt.

I just remember strangling people with plastic bags, stabbing with screwdrivers, broken glass, syringes and man was it disturbing.

i feel bad you were subjected to that rubbish of a game biggrin.gif might and magic games were so much better then that smile.gif many might and magic fans (myself included) refuse to recognize dark messiah as part of the might and magic series biggrin.gif

as far as the scene you described... i didn't really get that far into the game since i lost interest in it before i got to that part biggrin.gif

SNIP
This completely, I barely played it and said man this is just a little too much for me.
First time I had that wow factor with a video game that stuck with me was the cut scene in resident Evil 1 on PS one. The cut scene where you walk in and the zombie takes a bite and then slowly turns and looms at you...
second would be soldier of fortune, you could blow off limbs a hole in the stomach, explode their heads.
