CHOOSE: Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H OR Asrock FM2-A88X Extreme 4/6

Hi all,

Got my chip ready to build my FM2+ build. I have been eagerly awaiting the MSI gaming series as I own one with my current build. They are amazing, HOWEVER it's a bit too costly unfortunately frown.gif Gutted.

So, although I can't have red accents and the yummy features my next options are these 3. Gigabyte's 1 tier lower than the G1.Sniper, the GA-F2A88X-D3H or Asrock's offering with the extreme 4. The extreme 6 where I am is a bit more than the Sniper.

Anyway what's best? Looking to get my Athlon 760K to a high overclock. Also looking for a nice BIOS layout and something SOLID.

Unfortunately the UP4 isn't available where I am.

Cheers all smile.gif

Assuming you go with the 4+ or 6+ extreme boards, you should be aware of VRM cooling. The 4+ lacks any passive vrm cooling at all, and the 6+ has very poor cooling. This means you may need to buy or fabricate your own vrm cooling if you choose one of those boards. I modified my vrm heat sink a bit and also added a high pressure 80mm fan. Anyways the 750/760K is a real value when you clock it. Of the motherboards I have seen in the club, no particular one seems to help clock the CPU any better than any other. The best I seen in the club is on a lowly ASRock A55 board actually but I think the guy just has a good chip. The Extreme 6+ holds the #3 worlds record for highest CPU frequency, but everything was cooled on liquid nitrogen. By the way, the ASRock board may look black, but the pcb is really quite brownish from all of the copper traces. The Sniper is one of the better looking boards if you are going for aesthetics. The UP4 definitely has nice looking cooling but I haven't seen any high overclock stories coming from it.

In the end I went with the extreme 6+ myself, because under the shabby heat sink is some nice circuitry:
